You can see exactly why we were so determined to get Kitching. Thomas is a good buy but in all aspects he’s a bit less polished than Kitching. They are also helped by the flat back four meaning they get the benefit of Van Ewijk’s pace defensively more often and of course Bidwell being a better...

Another big plus in this squad is that in every position we have two players who could feasibly start. That wasn’t the case last year.

Sakamoto has looked great in the last few games and his link play with Van Ewijk is really improving. But the cross was a standard ball in to be honest. Thomas’ header added just enough pace for it to go in. I’ll take it, of course, but the cross was just one you see 50 times a game.

Wright & Simms first choice. Godden plus a young loan as back up.
