Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Twitter have done some research into how algorithms impact amplification of political content. Interestingly for 'lefty twitter' it seems right wing content receives more amplification, particularly in the UK. https://blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/company/2021/rml-politicalcontent

If only someone had told us at the start you can only catch covid off strangers, would have made things a lot easier.

Great news from the first randomised study of booster jabs. 10K people in the study, half had the booster, half had a placebo. Among those that got the booster the rate of symptomatic infection dropped to from 2.2% to 0.1%. Edit: changed the link to a non-paywalled version of the Times article...

    City centre stabbing

Is that the one opposite West Orchards? Always seems an odd location to me but I guess with the amount of student accommodation in town these days there's more than enough trade.

Something is better than nothing. Ideally you'd want a higher standard of masks but given how much difficulty people seem to have with very basic public health information you've got to be careful with how you put things across.

Think there was a post earlier this week with another countries data on that was split out into vaccinated and unvaccinated. Understand we might not have that information for the daily figures but a weekly update along the lines of what percentage of hospitalisations and deaths are unvaccinated...

I would laugh at them calling it Unboxed but it will probably turn out they've paid one of their mates millions to come up with that.

The current 7 day rate for deaths equates to nearly 50K a year. Is that an acceptable number? That's a genuine question, is there a cut off point at which deaths are too high? It was only a few weeks people were talking about it being acceptable if it was similar to an average flu year, then it...

Sounds the same as what's happening in Canada, or at least Ontario, according to my mate who went to his first hockey game post-covid a few days ago. Proof of vaccination which matches the name on any government issued photo-id. Then masks unless eating or drinking and he said that was being...

Its baffling why people keep talking about lockdowns, not being able to see family & friends, events being cancelled etc. All that's being spoken about is mask wearing in public, vaccine checks for venues & events and working from home where possible. The same things that are being done in...

Presume that's not people saying they won't get it and more the fact they haven't been offered it yet. My parents come into that category and are just waiting for the call. Given the vaccination rate in that age group was over 90% would be odd for the booster to drop to 50%, even the annual...

Denmark ended restrictions on 10th September, Norway 26th September and Sweden 29th September. Compare their numbers on those dates to 'freedom day', 19th July. They have removed their restrictions when they have things under control to a much greater extent than we did and if and when their...
