SBT vote on the Boris Johnson withdrawal agreement.....

Chill out shmmeee...periphery of the Union, as explained. They’ve been pulling closer together over the years and we’ve edged away. A majority of the EU want a different type of union to what we do (or a majority of us do !)

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

I had a few quid on Betfair where the wording was ‘Meaningful vote to pass on 19/10/19’ I bet ‘no’...think I should’ve won but just got cash back !!! I think Letwin (possibly) had good intentions in terms of the amendment, thinking those initially backing the deal may then disrupt it passing...

SBT vote on the Boris Johnson withdrawal agreement.....

I meant as in we’re not in the Euro, not in schengen and don’t want closer union. Basically we’ve been the black sheep for a long while

SBT vote on the Boris Johnson withdrawal agreement.....

I was responding (factually) to what people mean by the ‘taking back control of our money comment’. We obviously get benefits, however, if you’re asking, do I think we should have been second/third largest net contributor....probably not. We’ve always been on the periphery of the union.

SBT vote on the Boris Johnson withdrawal agreement.....

I think ‘taking back control of our money’ is more relating to the monies paid to the EU - £13bn paid year (gross), £9bn (net) in 2018. Second or third largest net contributor. Think it went up 20% this year from memory. When you’re out of the monetary union which will have a variety of...

There’s nuances though that people choose to ignore. Johnson wanted an alternative to the backstop with checks away from border. This was rejected and it was argued risked the GFA From what I’ve read the new ‘backstop alternative’ allows NI to benefit from new UK trade deals. They will have to...

Greta Thunberg / Climate Change Summit

Agreed Ian. Idiotic and loses some public support they’d have gained during their recent protests.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Just been listening Farage on LBC...infuriating ! Saying in one breath that we should’ve left on WTO and negotiated a free trade agreement but in another because the WA/Political Dec says the intention is to secure a free trade agreement and that Barnier has said we can’t have a free trade...

Scum (not you Tony !). Whilst I recognise the importance of not breaching the GFA I don’t think terrorists should dictate UK government policy.

I think we’ll be attempting free trades deal with a majority of countries (including the EU) so not sure what you mean by going in the other direction. The issue isn’t free trade deals, it’s remaining in single market and CU which would lead to us to having to follow whatever the EU have...

The fact is the two are intertwined ie he can only retain power longer term if he delivers for the country (hence the thoughts that he wanted a deal all along) Principled in comparison with May, no, but everyone was still quite happy to slaughter her when she was trying to find a way forward...
