yeah, very hard to do, hence I think they can only do it when there’s mini outbreaks (still some calculated guesswork involved though)

Real interesting. Surprised (and pleased) not more Birmingham entries. Selly oak is very much Birmingham uni area. Looks like a fair chunk of the spike is being driven by uni’s returning...not from general population

Yeah, I obviously didn’t mean it like that (sorry if it came across that way)

Sorry, just seen this. I was just talking population averages (highlighting the median age of Covid deaths) and obviously anyone taken earlier than they would’ve been, is awful as their life has been cut short. The transmission point is an interesting one and I agree on a purely scientific...

I haven’t looked into the south east numbers in detail either, however, IF (and I do mean if) they do remain lower then it could possibly to do with a far higher percentage of active people getting it the first time (so element of herd immunity - not a ‘let it rip’ type that everyone likes to...

The fact is, nobody on here currently knows what the right solution is, and nor do the scientists, as nobody has a crystal ball. If a vaccine is finalised shortly, then protect people until vaccine can be mass circulated would appear best option. If vaccine takes 2-3 years to mass circulate and...

Yeah, science sounds like a nightmare to be fair (as I’m sure certain other practical subjects would be)

Id hope that the kids off will almost be rotated ie not all off the same time. You and the other teachers will know better but my mates school has been operating ok

Agree. You can’t prevent people from doing their job or running their business and then not support. Larger outdoor events shouldve been allowed over the summer.

It’s better than 12m not at school though and those that are off will hopefully be back soon (although will probably be replaced by others being off)

I think most are taking those risks from what I’ve heard. I still tell mine to avoid supermarkets, take all the usual precautions (mask, was hands etc etc) but other than that I cant argue with her if she wants to get out and about and live her life. It’s the same with nearly all my mates...

Follow the law DOD ?! Come on. It’s crazy. There are huge numbers of people running round saying ‘protect the elderly’, has anyone asked them what they want ?! The median age of Covid deaths in this country is the same as the average life expectancy (around 80ish). I’d imagine most people in...

I don’t see why not. unlikely to 100% but it’s not as if it’s end of term and they’re all heading home for Xmas. It’s probably happened at the right time in that sense

Wow, that’s massive. Probably something to do with it. Saw over the weekend that Northumbria Uni had 770 cases ! Sure I read something like 90% of those uni cases we’re asymptomatic (don’t quote me). Just hope they isolated and kept away from higher risk/elderly. If so, and as long as the...

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

agree, however, he is known to be extremely unhealthy and to be in and out of hospital within that timeframe suggests something probably isn’t quite right. Maybe the hospital trip was more precautionary, who knows, but I just don’t trust the man

well, if possibly one of the most unhealthiest men on the planet, who is 74, recovers in a matter of days then it’s got to be questionable (unless he really does have the miracle cure)

Really interesting article, thanks Dave (bit of a tough read after a heavy Saturday night but stuck with it !) hope our senior science bods have read it ! ps if correct, is also why crowds should be able to go back to outdoor sporting events

Its weird. I’ll always try to play devils advocate but a ‘technical issue’ is not good enough in the current climate. Will keep an eye on hospital admissions etc but it feels to me that the numbers weren’t fitting with the narrative (hence a massive delay in releasing)

Always found her a bit smug (like a fair few MPs)...she again highlights though that there are to many decent ‘heavyweights’ of both main parties on the back benches, which is a shame
