You’re forgetting that we’re not playing 5 at the back like we did in the World Cup and Maguire is out injured. We’ve potentially got Foden, Sterling, Mount and Kane as attacking players. Compare that to just Sterling and Kane in 2018 who were supported by Alli and Lingard. I think Southgate...

I raised my eyebrow at Trippier’s inclusion at LB. Both Chillwell and Shaw are both good fullbacks. However, I’m not mad at that team if that’s what we go for. I think Grealish should start, but was unlikely after playing all the warm ups. Trippier adds a lot of value from set-pieces and that...

In the past, I’d read into qualification and friendly matches. I just want to judge us against Croatia and see what happens from there. Some questionable decisions by Southgate, but his last tournament showings have been strong. Keeping the faith! Southgate really ought to stick with 4-2-3-1...

    Club Legends

I voted Micky Gynn, McAllister, Hutchison and Hadji. Only seen Gynn and Hutchison at Gynn’s testimonial. Never got to see Hadji too but I appreciate he’s a legend. Surprised Ndlovu wasn’t an option!

Logan / Jake Paul / Mayweather Etc

It’s interesting because these professional fighters are going to use the Paul brothers to get their easy pay days until the fights no longer draw the crowds. KSI beat Logan Paul. That’s all we need to know and I’m glad the fight was booed.

Agreed. I just don’t think Henderson will be 100%, likewise with Maguire. When fit, two dead certain starters and Hendo is a good candidate for the captaincy should anything happen Kane. I’m not keen on starting Hendo and Rice, it’s one or the other for me!

He’s 17 and playing at a really high standard for that age. He had a v respectable debut and we should be proud we’ve got a player with his potential coming through the ranks. Either way, at best, he’s going to be a wildcard substitute for us in the main tournament. We have a lot of high...

Agreed, we need intelligent runs and pace to take full advantage of Kane’s range of passing. I’d probably stick with 4-2-3-1 and have a midfield comprising of Mount, Rice, Sancho, Grealish and Foden. Having players like Sterling, Rashford and DCL come off the bench is a big plus and give us a...

Qualifying records count for nought. Our qualifying for 2010 and 2014 was very good, amongst the best. The tournament showing, however, was not...

    Championship next season

I think we’ll still sign 5-6 loanees and still reduce our reliance on the loan market. Last season, all of our loanees, with the exception of Gykores, were important first team players. Perhaps this season, the aim is to have 2-3 good quality loans that boost the first team and the remaining...

    21/22 Summer transfer mega-thread

Back in the day, we all did the Football Manager cheat of adding a new manager to Man City/Chelsea then buying a rubbish player to bolster your own coffers. We just need Hiddink to do this in real life now... Danny Ireland, the 50 million pound goalkeeper who never played...

    Championship next season

I’m going off what Boddy has said in April. To briefly summarise, he talks about having 5 loans and the need to improve our own talent. I don’t disagree. The loan market is instrumental for just about every Championship team, so we’ll need to pick up 2-3 starting quality loans minimum. We’re...

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

I remember reading a month or two ago that the UK vaccination program was showing that the vaccines were reducing hospitalisation and death rates despite increasing infection rate. With the vaccines showing early signs of efficacy against the ‘Indian variant’, we should be optimistic for...

    Championship next season

A club of our stature needs to make a good use of the loan market. However, I do seem to recall Boddy saying something along the lines of us needing to develop and bring in our own talent. Perhaps I’m being optimistic, but now we’ve survived the first season, you’d hope we can get more...

    Ben Sheaf future

Frankly, we look a better team whenever Kelly played. At some point, we need to reduce our reliance on Kelly defensively for someone who can do his job just as well, but sounder on the ball. Earlier on the season, we conceded too many cheap goals with misplaced passes in our own half. Looking...
