    Simms + Wright = ?

35+ between Simms, Wright and Godden. We need the midfield to chip in and the centre backs to contribute from set pieces. We have looked better across the board from set pieces this season. Eccles is showing promise with his corners and Van Ewicjk is a threat with his free kicks and long...

Match Thread Hull (A) Friday 15th September

I agree. Neither Ayari nor Palmer look able to last 90 minutes at the moment but they can share the role. Personally I would swap them at half time rather than say 60/30 minutes and between them they should be fairly fresh for the full 90. Palmer has his detractors but I like him because he...

Match Thread Hull (A) Friday 15th September

I remain optimistic that our midfield will come good. Ayari has yet to get match fit and bed in and we have O'Hare and Allen to come back in the coming weeks. We haven't yet seen the best of Sakamoto, Wright or Simms. This season was always going to be a work in progress but I have confidence...

Match Thread Hull (A) Friday 15th September

I think it is logical to start with Godden and Wright up front, with Simms on the bench. That said, I quite like the idea of bringing Wright on with 30 minutes to go and hitting their tiring defence with his pace and power.

WBA (h) now on Monday 30th Oct

That is useful, so thank you for posting it, although the note at the bottom saying that the dates are illustrative and subject to change is a bit worrying. Hopefully they are just covering their backs and they won't change much, if at all, in practice.

Wasps go to bottom of the pyramid

I love football, rugby and cricket and I really don't get why fans of one sport should slag off those who prefer different ones. Each to his own I say. Slightly oddly, but I will explain why below, I support the Sky Blues at football, Warwickshire at cricket and Leicester Tigers at rugby. The...

    Ellis Simms Going Forward

Even if you regard Simms as being our third choice - which at the moment he is - I would regard him as a big improvement on last year's third choices of Walker and Waghorn.

    Ellis Simms Going Forward

I suppose having three decent strikers is a nice problem to have. Simms will get his chances whether due to injury, loss of form by the others or substitutions when we are well ahead or one of the others is tiring.

    Ellis Simms Going Forward

I suspect it is a confidence thing with Simms. He needs to get a couple of goals under his belt and I think he will be fine. Of course, as you say, this means he needs to get some game time and it will be counter-productive if the fans get on his back. He needs our support, not abuse.

I think bringing Palmer off the bench for the last 30 minutes could be a good option.

I can't wait to get O'Hare back, assuming of course that he comes back as he was. We do need some more goals from him though. A player of his ability ought to be contributing at least 6 goals a year from midfield, which is what Jamie Allen got last season.

Our midfield - do we have problems?

I think O'Hare is as close as we are likely to get to a replacement for Hamer, at least in the short-term. Obviously he isn't the same - few are - but he does have some creative attributes which will blend well with Sheaf and/or Eccles. When Allen and O'Hare are fit I think we have some decent...

Our midfield - do we have problems?

True but it's not that easy. A ready-made Hamer replacement would be unaffordable and wouldn't want to play in the Champioship. The only option would be to get in an unpolished diamond - as Hamer himself was when he arrived - and turn him into the finished article. Such a player won't be easy...
