They co-exist obviously. You might argue that failing to develop the ground in the lower divisions is a form of cheating, leaving more money, unfairly, to spend on players.

The precedent is promotion/election to the old 4th division was always based on grounds being suitable. You had to get the pitch sorted out first.

Sure but if you're propping up those expensive, 3 year contracts on income from sales then it is unsustainable unless you can develop players and sell them on consistently. That is much harder to do with a small, undersized squad heavily reliant on loans.

Where is the space for them to develop going to come from? I think it's the PL driving this, in essence creating feeder clubs through the loan system at the expense of development. Many kids will end up missing out altogether where another year or two would have made all the difference. Perhaps...
