Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Yeah, looking at the latest it says cost starting at £418 for visit to a major A&E department that involves more complex investigation (which is the figure I’d heard/seen quoted) but a lot less for routine visits to care centres. So a current average of around 250-300 (inflation) now would make...

Two things SBD, I’ve said QE to help the economy grow and on infrastructure is fine as long as it’s controlled and doesn’t cause massive currency debasement (otherwise governments may as well be honest and just tax us all more cos that’s pretty much the end result - we have less purchasing...

I know of some agency staff who do very well. If it’s last minute staff will negotiate what they want and agency will obviously stick profit on top of this

Exactly this type of stuff. GP appointments ‘cost’ around £30-40 yet A&E costs something like 400. GPs aren’t available out of hours and many not at weekends….where does everyone end up 🤷‍♂️

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

This was from a senior consultant at the QE mate so I’ll take it as fact. That’s not to say many won’t choose to do agency/locum work for the extra cash as well, that’s their personal choice but hardly a plan to privatise the nhs - if individuals didn’t choose to do agency work they’d be no...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

yeah this is a major issue and something needs to be done about it but ultimately these are workers deciding they’d rather do that to earn more and get greater fl I spoke to a senior consultant a couple of years ago and he said the reason many nurses at his hospital were going to temp agency...

    Boxing 2024

Just saying to my mates, he’s never been a boxer to start with, now he looks gun shy as well which isn’t ideal when all you’ve got is a big swinging right hand

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

It’s not really the physical cost I’m bothered about, more the fact that 14-15m appointments are wasted and other people have missed out. Understand though in terms of docs playing catch up so the fines could be used for giving GPs extra to extend hours in evenings/weekend. I’d also consider...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Had a quick scan down that link. Strange that it says missed appointments were 7m, yet the attached also on nhs, says 15m (both 2019) NHS England » Missed GP appointments costing NHS millions Pretty sure we got it down to 14m this year though. Sounds like the US has only recently started...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I don’t think we’ll charge for appointments nor should we, but why on Earth we’ve never implemented a penalty system for missed GP or hospital appointments Ill never know. They say ‘administrative burden’ but let’s be honest if people knew they’d be charged £30-40 for not bothering to cancel it...

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

It’s a long time ago but googled the bond yields at the time of the financial crisis and they were low/normal so dont think we lost confidence of people buying government bonds. The government and BoE decided we needed QE/print to get liquidity into the banking system to stop it collapsing and...

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

Now now Fernando, that’s not quite true. Deficit spending is fine (we don’t have a choice !) as long as it’s helping the economy grow sufficiently. It’s especially ok if interest rates are low and you can maintain confidence of buyers of government bonds….or if you have to print/QE as long as...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Surely we can just all agree on the following; the nhs needs to change and improve a bit, the public need to take some personal responsibility for their own health (there’s no excuse on exercise and moderating some of the naughty stuff), the government needs to find a way of getting some...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I’ve got to admit, I am surprised Labour have committed to not increasing the main taxes during the course of the next Parliament. Not sure it’s necessary and could come back to bite them ps MMB makes some fair points about the NHS. I’m not getting involved in the wider debate (again) but if...

I’ve said they deserve more. My point is what’s the point of striking a week before the election when there’s almost certainly going to be a change of government ? If the reason for the strike is to try to get better pay and conditions why do you do it at a time when neither party can do...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

It doesn’t reflect well on the government and people will have their opportunity to show their dissatisfaction in a few weeks. Surely if you’re the BMA you just wait to have a meeting/start negotiations with Labour after the election ? Would delaying it hurt their ‘cause’ and they could use...

Looking at ADMs thread and what a friend mentioned, I wonder if there’s more to the Abbott situation. Agree about Elphickie though, although I appreciate the ‘politics’ I still think it was just a very strange move all round

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Parliaments on election footing, Labour are likely to win and havent got any control over the cash yet, so how on Earth is this justifiable ? I actually think junior doctors should get a bit more but all this is going to do is potentially cause more problems (or worse) for patients and the nhs...
