Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Ps that doesn’t mean I’m not for spending more, especially on infrastructure etc. I just don’t follow the view that we can print and spend what we want with no consequences/repercussions

US is a different beast though and nobody can judge until a few years down the line. They have the benefit of being global reserve currency, amazing tech companies and natural resources. If we’d done what the US had our bond yields/borrowing costs would’ve gone through the roof. As I mentioned...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Agreed. It’s impossible to catch up sufficiently to significantly reduce prices in the short to medium term. Increasing housing stock will stabilise prices over time though Only thing that would drive prices down is a deep recession whereby unemployment increases significantly. None of us want...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Yeah, my concern is those that can borderline afford it will have to withdraw their kids. Hopefully schools will look at an internal bursary/assistance scheme to help these parents with the additional cost An alternative option could’ve been to say to schools that to retain charity status they...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Yeah, Im with Clint in terms of sentiment but the repercussions for many and the wider economy would be huge (people feel poorer, stop spending, economy unravels) The solution is build a lot more houses than the net migration numbers require. Not happened for years, probably ever, though

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Can’t see anything other than a solid Labour majority even with the large swing required (still 10s at Betfair for a hung parliament sick boy) Sunaks not a great campaigner and he hasn’t given the NI cut and real term wage increases time to really benefit people. He might’ve firmed up some of...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Im not arguing it should. I’m just saying whatever levers the government pulls with regard to private landlords is unlikely to solve the problem and if anything, might make it worse for renters

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

The percentage of properties available for private rent has been decreasing in recent years, which in conjunction with interest rate rises and increased demand, has surprise, surprise, driven up the costs for renters. People just keep ignoring the glaringly obvious and coming up with...

    USSR invades Ukraine.

The West could try to dictate a solution by withdrawing financial and military support. This is unlikely to happen in the short term unless trump gets in, then who knows. Any solution would obviously require Ukraines buy in/agreement. As a country I get the impression they’d fight to the end

    USSR invades Ukraine.

I agree with this. Unfortunately I also think that the only way to end this in the short term will be a negotiated settlement. If it’s a negotiated settlement that included Ukraine territory then it would have to be alongside Ukraine joining nato so any future incursion would be against a nato...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

In Europe we’re all in a bit of trouble with aging populations and anaemic growth. As you say US will be ok but could have some big debt issues on the horizon if their growth slows but rates remain high edit - the ideal would be reaching cross party consensus on some longer term planning...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Don’t disagree with a lot of that. I’ve said before that stimulating growth and investment in infrastructure etc are essential. Nobody’s suggesting we’re unique. There are some big choices that we and most other western nations/economies need to make.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Interesting article and I think pretty accurate of where we are as a country and politically at the moment. Britain’s no longer a serious nation and we’re not serious about fixing it...

    Summer transfer window 2024

The grounds an asset he or one of his companies would then own/have security over. We don’t know who would’ve bought it or how the purchase would’ve been funded. He could borrow against it in future if needs be. Very different from using cash on transfer fees and wages I always felt mentioning...

    Championship thread 24/25!

Of course he’s not. It’s a target/aim/objective. Why people then turn this into something more I don’t know Also, looking at the teams in the championship this coming season and some of the financial pressures they’ll be under, how far we finished behind in the end and unsurprisingly seeing...
