Disagree on Doyle. I actually thought he knew how far to push it and that the West Brom cup game you refer to was actually an exception. Other than that game I don't remember him ever being sent off for us, which was not too bad in well over 300 games.

Wasn't it Sheaf who gave the ball away cheaply in the lead up to their goal? I suspect if it had been Eccles instead he would have been royally roasted. Incidentally I don't want Sheaf targetted either, just pointing this out. Against Leeds I would be starting both Sheaf and Eccles.

I think it was easier to remember players from back then because they stayed with teams for longer. Squad rotation was not a thing and most teams had a recognisable first XI.
