Match Thread Leeds United - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 16th Dec

Robins has tried this strategy a few times and it has never really worked. Hopefully it does today. We're clearly targeting the next 3 games for points. We haven't recruited for 4-3-3 so when we need to rotate players the players who come in are going to be out of position until we can sort...

Match Thread Coventry City - Birmingham City Match Thread - Friday 8th Dec

Both are true - we've had games where the strikers should have done better (Godden @ Leicester; Wright @ Millwall) & where we have been really good at working the ball into the final 3rd and then lacked an incisive pass from midfield (Swansea; Stoke; Rotherham).

    Mowbray Sacked

Hope the new manager starts all the young players not ready to play on the 23rd... In all seriousness it is utterly ridiculous when management tell the manager what to do. Especially sacking Mowbray for not starting young players when his track record for developing talent & giving young...

    Transfer targets

I think we will move & spend for the right players. Definitely a midfielder and maybe one other. But more likely a just the midfielder and a couple of loans. The value for money in January is usually low - hence why most teams utilise the loan market. There is also no point in overloading...

    Transfer targets

As much as I'd like him I'm not sure we need another big striker who runs the channels well. We've gone big on Wright & Simms so need to stick with it. Maybe if he doesn't move in Jan and Godden moves on in the summer. Top priorities in Jan have to be CM and dynamic Winger who can play either side.

    Mowbray Sacked

3 points off the play offs - seems very harsh. Especially as he turned it round last year to get them into the play offs. Their squad has some exciting young players but I don't think they should be expecting to finish in the play offs. There were rumours that the owner wanted to replace him in...

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

I'm not sure what the reasoning was behind playing 5-2-1-2 and trying to play possession higher up the pitch. Sheaf/Eccles were constantly outnumbered & we were so vulnerable in transition. The answer is probably we thought we'd have Hamer who could cover so much space in the middle.

    Recruitment has been shocking

Definitely looks like we recruited for 5-3-2 in the summer & Robins said as much at the fans forum. However, we definitely recruited for 4-3-3 in the League 1 promotion season. Changing formation mid-season to better suit our players isn't a bad thing and shouldn't be used as a negative.

    Transfer Rumour Ellis Simms

I'm hoping he's getting the Gyok treatment when Biamou was keeping him out the of team and they're getting him to the level needed. Feel like we'll see him have an extended run in the team soon. Godden has been a great servant to the club but I'd be surprised if he is still starting by the...

    Time to part ways…

Crazy how the mood changes based on one result. As Robins has alluded to - it takes time for players to adapt to tactics & coaching and we have signed half a new squad. Ipswich were incredibly cohesive yesterday and show what nearly 2 years of developing the same squad & tactics can produce...

Match Thread Ipswich Town - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 2nd Dec

As soon as you saw the line up you knew that we were going to lose. Robins treated this game like a free hit. Did the same at Norwich away last year when he dropped Gyok for Walker (among other changes) Wants to keep it tight and bring on starters on at 60 to try and win. Problem is we are...

Definitely Simms for Godden. I like Matty but he's far too slow for what needs to be a perfect counter-attacking performance.

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

Gyok has a unique skillset that no striker was ever going to live up to and makes comparison worthless. Wright operates in similar spaces to Gyok but prefers to run on to the ball and is nowhere near as comfortable dribbling or challenging the centre-backs. With the positions he gets into...

    Transfer targets

Wouldn't mind seeing O'Hare in the 8/10 role Allen is currently in - like Maddison for Spurs this season. Could be wrong but I doubt Robins is looking at the 10s as competing for the 3 in midfield unless we're chasing a game. When we played 4-3-3 in League 1 O'Hare was used as part of the...

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

He has the best xG per 90 in the whole division. His movement is clearly very very good. Work on his first touch and his finishing and we'll flip him for double in 2 years.

    Transfer targets

I'm sure he'll improve but based on last night if he runs down his contract you can only see teams like Stoke or Norwich going in for him. Probably not going to start looking back to himself until he gets 10 starts in a row - something I doubt we'll give him unless he extends.

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

Don't get how people do not see this. It is mainly Allen's job to support Bidwell in a 4-4-2 defensive structure and we leave Wright higher to attack the back line quickly when we turn it over. Wright is getting hounded for tactical instruction. When we got caught out high up the pitch a...

    Transfer targets

Doesn't fit the system in a 4-3-3 so doesn't work out badly if he isn't going to sign the contract. He is a great player to bring on when we need to make the midfield more attacking so makes sense to keep using him as an impact sub for the rest of the season. Although Palmer could play the...

    Transfer targets

2 wingers makes sense. We have effectively no cover for Wright/Saka there at the moment. Not sure how we'll get to Jan with only 4 players for the 3 forward positions & loads of games.

    Net Spend

A lot of our signings will look better post-January if we sign a competent number 8. Similar to when we signed Matty James (once he got up to speed) in the first season in the Championship.
