Just spoke to my missus and she says she was terrified and they actually had it in their syllabus at her school and they were taught about what to do in the event of an attack. She's younger than me, so this would have been mid to late 80's I think.

If the police believed he had a bomb, I can't see why anyone would have a problem with the police shooting him. I am assuming they know that it WAS this bloke who carried out the atrocity. Apparently the police arrived really, really quickly.
