You can go outside/not be 'locked away' without packing a beach. Common sense would have seen most of those people take one look at the beach and say "nah, not today". Go somewhere less crowded so can distance. But they didn't.

Someone far left today would've been considered a centrist in the 70's. Certainly nowhere near radical enough to be in power. Take the unions - the leaders are largely ignored by many as being radical but they're hardly Scargill are they?

I agree with this. That kind of wording of 'winning/losing' suggests it's a battle with the intention to about gaining supremacy rather than equality. At best it's very poor wording, at worst letting the mask slip on true intentions. There are a fair few who seem happy to judge a white person...
