    General Election 2019 thread

I can't remember an election campaign more bitter and vitriolic. The personal attacks against all the main party leaders has been very ugly. It has been excrutiating. Glad when it's over.

Of course, some criticism of Israel is labelled anti-semitism when it is not. That is entirely valid. Equally, some stuff has gone way beyond legitimate criticism though.

You're proving my point exactly, and you're much better than that shmmeee. What is it about the criticism of Islam that bothers you so much? A take down of other religions? Sure, I'm happy to do that. As an atheist I'll happily take them all on. Fundamentalist Christianity - I could fill my...

Not sure what one of 'those' is, but if it is someone who feels that we should be allowed to criticise female genital mutilation, the throwing of homosexuals from the top of buildings, honour killings, the subjugation of women without being labelled a racist, then yes, count me in. I just...

    General Election 2019 thread

You're missing the point Otis. It is the misrepresentation that is the problem. Yes, I have 3 children, and I once had an horrendous experience with my first child, which was under a Labour government in fact (but I didn't blame Tony Blair personally). The issue is this - what happened was...

    General Election 2019 thread

I'm sorry, but you've all lost your minds. You're so desperate for this to be true that none of you are listening. What happened has been confirmed by staff at the hospital. The child wasn't given a bed, true, but was in a chair in the treatment room. The parents placed the child on the floor...

In other news, what was Jo Swinson thinking when she announced the gender self-ID policy? Hardly a vote winner and will plague her for the remainder of the campaign and lead to more excrutiating inverviews like this:

I'm guessing the reference is to the letterbox comment he made. Read the whole piece though and it does shed a slightly different light on it given that he was defending the right of Muslim women to wear the hijab in response to Denmark's decision to ban it. I'm not sure why he uses such silly...

Yeah, just read the post again and she does.

    General Election 2019 thread

OK, I waded in based on one post without reading the thread. I don't buy into the lazy 'racist PM' tropes though.

Yep, this sort of thing just undermines the very legitimate concerns and criticisms.

Who? She doesn't name the person she's quoting, does she?

Yeah, apparently so. He was in with flu, so wasn't given a bed because, well, he had flu. He was placed on the floor on some coats by his parents who then sent images to the Mirror. Was discharged soon after. Using your sick child as a political prop, that's pretty low.

There are actually advantages to this. Peers are less likely to be careerist and think in short term, 5 year parliamentary cycles. I worked with a Lib Dem peer on an energy working group on a white paper and saw this first hand. I think the system works. Hereditary peers should go though With...

Match Thread Coventry City vs. Ipswich Town Match Thread - Saturday 7th Dec

Aye, and there seems to be a lot going over tomorrow who don't usually bother (based on the conversations I've had), should be over 8K.

Hotel and McDonald's Plans by the Ricoh Rejected

This is not that uncommon. Most planning decisions are delegated. They only tend to go to committee if it's a contentious application that has received more than 5 objections, or if the fire, police or somebody like English Heritage raises concerns. It still stinks though.

Which I never said. I said they are not always full, but of course they often are.

Hotel and McDonald's Plans by the Ricoh Rejected

Well it isn't, and nor would this be, no hotel runs at 100% occupancy every night, they don't need to. That said, it is well known that there is a shortage of hotel beds in Coventry, particularly Monday-Friday, it is why 3 new hotels are being built in the city centre. This hotel was never...

Match Thread Sunderland vs. Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 23rd Nov

Of course, but that's always the case and we have a tough run too. The point being, we about where we were at this stage last season, which is frustrating as we are clearly a better side this term. Shows we're probably 5 or 6 points short of where we really ought to be. Those points in the bag...
