Blaming it on coaching is a cop out. If Binks, Thomas and Lati need to be told that whenever the ball goes down our left side you need to be goal side of your man we’ve got bigger issues than I thought.

Thomas has a place. He’ll make the odd block and head the odd goal. But he’s so limited defensively, especially positionally. Reminds me a lot of Paul Williams. Gives his all but often does his best work correcting his own mess.

You’re talking about someone who calls his squad “the deck” and is about to appoint Lampard. He may well believe it - which makes it more likely to be wrong.
