Exactly. We concede two at the moment with 4 or 5. Until we fix that we may as well select the team to try and get 3 at the other end.

My problem is identifying what Torp is. Not a midfielder really. Not a forward. Can’t play wide, deep or central. Which pushes him into a very niche role. And he isn’t good enough to have a role carved out for him. For me he’s basically Kasey Palmer with a bit more consistency.

Tactics, formations, drivel and obfuscation. There is one standout reason we should play 4 at the back and that’s because our defenders aren’t very good. Adding another just deepens the level of mediocrity.

I would like to see no loans. No prospects. We need a vastly experienced centre half and a grizzled championship midfielder. If we can offload a couple I’d then try and get a right back.

But it cost us a fa cup semi when we played him there at home v Sheff Utd. The problem was he was an OK defender but a very good striker. So we sort of cut our nose off to spite our face by weakening the attack too much.

I don’t think it’s a question of effort or ability. There are two problems. The squad balance is wrong. We’ve got good options in the forward positions but only 1 right sided option. We’ve got two good players in Rudoni and Torp who don’t fit the system. We have 1 right back who has to play...

I don’t get the negativity around Rudoni. Probably our best player this season so far. What he has is quality on the ball and a bit of creativity with an eye for goal. He’s also improved our set piece. Great signing for me.

Can’t believe some think Palmer is even remotely a miss. Inconsistent, lightweight and ineffectual. And they were his good points.

Gordon Banks would look poor behind our back four.

A fair bit of this thread is quite bizarre because a) we have general criticism of lots of players followed by b) a fair few of them will be targeted and “be off”.

Ridiculous thread really. Why do we need to like any of them? I just want them to get results on the pitch. That is the only relationship fans have with players. And by the way if they string 2-3 wins together they’ll all be favourites again.

I’d say it’s lack of aggression rather than arrogance. I know it’s a non contact sport in essence now but we don’t have any aggression. From the back you’d say Binks, mve, Dasilva, Eccles, Sheaf, Wright, Simms, mason-Clark, Saka are all very laid back players. It’s too many.

We have no idea what Lampard thinks of Austin. That will be the key. Our recent recruitment has been odd. I was amazed we pursued Binks and personality wise I’d have gone for different to Dovin. But the real issue is we haven’t recruited based on a firm game plan. The squad is very unbalanced...

I think we will be fine in that we’ll be mid table. There is no balance to the squad but we have enough quality in it. We need to add personality as much as positions. Need a couple of nasty individuals in the footballing sense.

I don’t think we’ll be relegation fodder. When Wright comes back we have enough firepower. But we really need to spend the next two windows reconstructing our defence. Binks, Dasilva and Thomas don’t have clean sheets in them. And we need to just play Dovin.
