    Robins interview

Come on Northern, it says "recruitment is the key to bringing in better players". You're not going to argue with that surely?

    I was there when.....

Nice thread Hutch11. All sorts of random little memories come to mind. For example, I was also there when the South American guy (Jose Perdomo?) swung a 50-yard ball from the centre circle, setting it off somewhere in the general direction of Montevideo, and bringing it round in a huge arc like...

    I was there when.....

I was there when George Hudson scored the winner in the final game of the season in 1964, and the crowd went on the pitch at the end to celebrate the Third Division title. These things stay with you forever, even if you were only a kid at the time.

    Shipley

Bit puzzled by the positions Shipley is asked to play in. I seem to recall that in his first season or so he was mostly played as a left-sided midfielder, and often struggled. Then he got a few games in a central/holding role, seemed to relish it and IMO looked much better – just simple...

    End Product - The Statistics

The point is that very few in the team can shoot properly, and we need to bring a couple in to do that next year. It's stating the bleedin' obvious, but you don't score by sweeping it tamely wide or too near the keeper. Go through the squad and ask yourself how confident you would be in each...

Is there anything in the rules that says you can spend half a minute drying the ball with a towel in the middle of a match?

    Ratings

In the last couple of seasons, I've lost count of the number of times McFadzean has given opponents a couple of yards by wasting his time putting his hand in the air and looking at the officials. It's a baffling schoolboy error, considering his experience and how mature he is in every other...

Didn’t need research, I remembered it because you claimed you were speaking for everyone, but (along with a few others) I could see the value of Gyok even then. Anyway, glad you like him now (y)

Last season you informed us that "not a single one of us would care" if Vik didn't play for us again. Can I suggest you're a bit too quick to write people off?

    Masks 😷

I agree about the 10% of people failing the rest of us in this fight, and making the restrictions worse as a result. But tbh this Omicron wave would still require some measures regardless of how many people were vaccinated because it's a slightly different enemy.

    Masks 😷

Yes, but hang on to the empty glass for emergencies. Seems it's fine to go to the bog, but you mustn't queue for it! "When using the Stadium amenities, such as toilets and food and drink outlets, please avoid queues"

CHRISTMAS QUIZ 2021 - PLEASE READ OP BEFORE POSTING!!!

'Ejeculate' is how the Queen will pronounce it in her Christmas Day speech. You heard it here first. Anyway, I've rearranged the anagram to make it more topical - VILAN O'HARE, U KAN'T JUMP 'N HIT GOAL

O hare doesn’t flatter to deceive

Not familiar with how those stats are presented, but if I've got it right they show that at Championship level Maddison scored or assisted every two games, whereas for O'Hare it's four and a half games. And Maddison has gone on to deliver similar results in the Prem - it's what you'd expect...

    Christmas Quiz 2021

Just chipped in a tenner, and hopefully plenty of people will do that, whether they are joining in with the quiz or not,

Oh Lord - RIP John Sillett

I'm very upset today, but at the same time smiling about the sheer joy that John Sillett gave to us. I'm old enough to have a slight childhood memory of him playing for us at Highfield Road, when the Jimmy Hill revolution was just getting under way. No doubt playing for Jimmy taught him a lot...
