Are they? I'd say it's the opposite, they're often wingers who get converted into a more defensive role. I want to see him play more, he looks electric whenever he comes on. Whether that should be at wing back or attacking mid I'm not sure.

Unless relegation is on the cards there's no way we should be sacking him this season. He's improved our year on year for 6 years now, one off season is due.

I think the “controlling the ball” critique isn’t fair. Last night he was so isolated that unless it was glued to his feet when he received a pass it would get picked off straight away. Wouldn’t happen if there was more support and better progressive passing from midfield.

What attributes does he have that are “quality”? He’s got a decent engine and that’s about it. Puts in the effort too. But in terms of actual quality he has little at this level.

I think the root of most of them is midfield. We’re trying to play a possession based system yet Eccles is lacking technically and Kelly doesn’t have the legs to create angles or the vision to pass forward and break lines.
