I agree that MvE playing too far forward was a massive problem. The thing with Kelly isn't that Kelly was bad, it's that he came on for Hamer who made us tick. When that happened the entire momentum of the game shifted.

I'd have him back as well, but don't think Bidwell would be seen as a LCB on a regular basis. More likely we'd let him move on if it were to happen.

Feel sorry for Nigeria as they were the better team. I don't think we've looked that good in any of the games this tournament to be honest

    Subs

I agree about Eccles, but he looked tired too. Interesting idea about Binks coming on and Lati moving forward instead.

Not blaming Kelly at all but as you say Hamer is Hamer, Kelly is Kelly. It was clearly going to change momentum in their favour.

    Subs

Subs didn't work but were understandable. Hamer needed protecting in case of injury. MvE was going to be given time but played too far forward. Wright should have been next to Simms rather than replacing him.

Normally I'm one who likes to give fringe players a run out in this but we need to give as much time for the new players to get to used to one another. Collins Thomas Lati Binks MvE Eccles* Sheaf Bidwell Sakamoto Wright Simms Wilson, Fadz, Dasilva, Kelly*, Howley, Burroughs, Palmer, Godden, Obikwu

I was a bit worried the staring line-up may have been a little too conservative and was relying heavily on us not conceding for the first hour, but MR does seem to have a knack of making sure the team could do that. We looked solid defensively but attacking wise we were lacking a bit, and...

    Player ratings v Leicester

Wilson - 6.5 Was solid on the whole. Looked ok with his hands and feet Dasilva - 6.5 Did both his defensive and attacking duties well enough without looking amazing Eccles - 6.5 Out of position and was targeted early on but stood up to the challenge well, with cover from Thomas Thomas 7.5 Looked...

Has seeing the lads play made you more or less optimistic about the season

About the same, though the defence looked more solid than I expected while the attack needs to improve. Leicester away is going to be one of the hardest games of the season and we matched them pretty much all the way, so you've got to hope we can keep around the play-off picture. Hamer's...

    Transfer Rumour Ellis Simms

I think Simms may have been feeling the pressure a bit today and will need a bit of time to settle in, and/or Wright to take some of the weight off his shoulders. His first touch and passing were poor, and running at the defence he looked like a Vik-in progress. The running was just a bit...

Looked good and covered for Eccles well. Surprised by his forays forward. Did get caught out for their first but apart from that imppressive.

Eccles as a RWB, yes. Bidwell is a decent option still at LWB and I'd be happy for him to start over Dasilva in games that are likely to be more testing. Godden I agree - even if you think Wright may not be ready to start this game we've got better options in the box. Palmer and Hamer with Sheaf...

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

I imagine the wage bill is getting pretty high and above our income (exc. transfer fees) The saving grace is that barring an absolute calamity at least a few of the players we've signed should return significant fees in years to come,
