More commercial maybe; produced by Todd Rundgren and aimed at the US market. The band hated it at first (the arrangements, etc) apparently but loved it later. Lots of 60's influences on it I think, really great tunes. I remember being disappointed when I first played it because I loved the...

I felt that with Skylarking they had reached a whole new level, come of age. In fact I still see it as their finest work. (Sorry everyone, can't resist a thread with Veggie food, XTC and threesomes in it! :))

I love XTC but no cover could match the original of All Along the Watchtower.

How dare you! I may be a veggie who listens to XTC but that doesn't mean I take it up the Gary Glitter! (although I might do and wouldn't apologize for it!) :D

By the way: I propose that CCFC's one and only vegetarian 'firm' should henceforth be known as 'The Cherry Tree Club' We could wear some nice clobber, crack a few skulls and then go for a nice vegetarian meal. :)

What a catalogue that band has though considering they were best known for a couple of singles. Really underestimated band for me.

It's about timing aint it? For me Skylarking arrived at a particularly blissful time in my life. I love the previous albums too though, in fact XTC were one of those bands that I was truly obsessed with for a while.

Did anyone ever catch the 2 albums they released as The 'Dukes of Stratosphere'?

Anything from Skylarking, an absolute gem of an album.
