Trouble with that is that it treats equally a pass to the wing that is passed back and a genuinely penetrative attack. It came out to there left and then went straight back quite a lot, can you remember Burnley getting past MVE, or even trying

Teams have spotted our weakness. Such a high proportion of their attacks were down their right. Bit harsh on EMC but I think sides have researched him as well - often up against three men

    Worst ever referee?

Ref was the worst of the season (and as a rule I am usually sympathetic to them) You almost needed a rule like they have in rugby - keep fouling and the next one is in the sin bin whoever he is

Match Thread Coventry City - Burnley FC Match Thread - Saturday 5th Apr

I agree - his brain tends to go to sleep when he is not on the ball. Nor is he alert for a rapid throw out by the keeper - he tends to just trot back to the halfway line

Players who weren't underrated, overrated, correctly, incorrectly rated or particularly liked or hated

I regularly think of Mick Coop. Every time one of our fullbacks makes a hurried cross into the penalty area I am reminded how often he did it, but never under the pressure that modern day payers are. He would have an age to cross, these days its milli-seconds

Match Thread Coventry City - Burnley FC Match Thread - Saturday 5th Apr

Sadly I think they will be just too good for us. Not in the way Leeds or Ipswich were, but in clinical professionalism. I usually like 5 at the back but as Burnley are not a particularly offensive side, and their defence notoriously difficult to beat, we might as well give it a go and risk...

    Summer Transfer Window

It's pretty much what Forest did. Loans and new signings iirc. I think Brentford funded it by selling Watkins. At the most optimistic we have barely 4 players (four!) of Premiership standard.

    Summer Transfer Window

This is the right sort of length of list and rightly focused on defence. We already have four players, if you include Haji, who play on the wing so it implies that Frank does not trust one of them (Tats?). Spending money on cover for Tats makes little commercial sense, might just as well keep...

    Summer Transfer Window

If we were to rely on the current team then it's 0-4 every home game. Premiership strikers will make mincemeat of our back 4 - even MVE. It will be a week in week out thrashing. See Soton this year and Burnley last. Forest spent big and survived. Luton spent on the ground, because they were...

Eccles Injured for rest of the season

IT can occasionally work to your benefit. It can force the hand of a manager reluctant to make a hard choice. 1986 World Cup - Bryan Robson injured and Ray Wilkins sent off. Enter Glen Hoddle and Peter Reid and a great cup run. This year we only found out what EMC was capable of because Haji...

Eccles Injured for rest of the season

Eccles is never our best player. If he is then we are in the do-do. Rudoni and Thomas would have always been on the pitch for a start

    Summer Transfer Window

Yes: Dovin, Grimes, Rudoni, Haji On a good day: MVE, Sheaf, Kitching Probably good Championship Torp, EMC, Tats, Thomas After that they are average Championship

    Loans (again)

Have you not seen the list above? And they are good for retaining. See callum and Vik who were both loans originally and have been the two best players over the last 5 years bar possibly Hamer It's insane not to consider loans. We are lumbered with JDS when a good Premiership young left back...

    Loans (again)

Doyle McNally O'Hare Walsh Gyokeres Maatsen Sterling in 4 seasons If we do get promoted we will need them because at least they are off the books when we get relegated the next season

Wright the difference in the playoffs

Looking at the full game you can see how he worked himself into good positions to receive the ball. But he was helped by midfield dominance behind him. But I doubt if Simms would have got number 1 and 3.

But it was JDS's 's gaff that gave them their best chance when the score was 2-0. They should have punished us for that

    Sakamoto

Repeating my comments on the Ratings thread. At a personal level getting Saka back to his best has been one of Lampard's big achievements. Much more willing to take his man on, use his right foot (see Rudoni goal at Oxford) and cover for MVE No more hugging the touchline and just passing it...

It's all been said (and it's dead easy when you have just had a good win) but in no particular order 1. At a personal level, getting Saka back to his best and Torp's emergence have been the big achievements of Lampard's regime. They've got Saka to trust himself more 2. Ball retention...
