I watched Kyle Lightbourne play for Stoke in a pre season friendly against a local Isle of Man team around 2000. I had a fantastic view from the touch line. Kyle was by far the worst player on the pitch. Never understood how he made it as a professional.

Agreed Terry and you make some fair points. Hartson is disqualified as a serious contender in this list of misfiring contenders though as 1. He was sensational for us on the pitch (albeit too late as you rightfully point out) and 2. He was sold at a significant profit.

I agree with most of the comments on Bellamy. Disastrous signing and he clearly wasn't fully recovered after his injury lay off. But from memory we recouped a large % of the fee when he was sold to Newcastle so that in some way disqualifies him from the worst signing ever category? For me...
