Not sure that's true. They were scoring goals for fun in the Championship before their play off against us. Carrick was then simply tactically outmanoeuvered by MR. Outside of the parachute payment beneficiaries I think Middlesbrough will be our biggest rivals for promotion this season.

It never ceases to amaze me the importance with which some supporters put on pre season results even though history tells us they are no indication of the prospects for the season ahead.

One of saddlebrains poorest ITK moments was this time last pre-season when he said that MVE was a devisive unpopular figure. Remember thinking at the time that such gossip was malicious and served no useful purpose.

Probably the fastest player I've ever seen play for us (including John Williams), but shame the rest of his game wasn't up to standard. Interesting guy though.

Not sure that's right in either case. 'Utter dross' is very strong terminology - there were far worse players that played for us in that period. He was also not helped by his managers choosing to play him on the wing, which he was clearly not suited to, rather than up front where his goals...

If we were in fact in for Stamenic, there must be a chance that it was with a view to selling on and replacing Sheaf, which if so would make redundant the view some have on here that the money set aside for signing Stamenic is still burning a hole in MR's pocket.

Although there is an obvious risk of injury from playing such teams, its not a bad way to build team spirit, so from that angle it was good to see that we stood up well to their bullying style.
