Watched it last night. Bakayoko wasn't great, far from it, but I don't agree with him being made the scapegoat. Awful punted balls up to him in the first half, that no forward would of got on the end of. Our 2 best moves in the first half actually came from us playing it up to his feet, and we...

    Biggest Transfer Shock

I remember the home game against Swindon on Sky. Marsden completely ran the show, with Roy Wegerle.

    Biggest Transfer Shock

Transfer In - Has to be Gary Mac. Heard rumours he had fallen out with Howard Wilkinson, and of course we already had Strachan as Assistant Manager, which was probably the biggest pull for Macca. Shame we didn't see anywhere near his best until his 4th and final season with us. Transfer Out -...

    The Great What If?

Yes correct, my mind was a bit fuzzy, being 25 years ago. It was still a horrible season, that actually got worse when Butcher left and Howe took over. Thank god for Bobby Gould and Phil Neal the next season.

    The Great What If?

Butcher also got rid of Kilcline, who went on to play rather well for Swindon & Newcastle. Killer would of been a better option than Andy Pearce who Butcher signed in 1991. Peter Billing was already around under Sillett and I always quite liked him. As I recall Butcher's first 3/4 season in...

    Gould 71

Phil Neal did well to keep us competitive, before Richardson began his spending spree, with Atkinson bringing in overpriced Championship players (Paul Williams, Shaw, Daish, Salako, Richardson) and we actually got worse. Neal had virtually no money, and must be credited for bringing Dublin to...

    Reliable v mistake ridden

Reliable Brian Borrows - Fantastic cultured full back. Good going forward, and steady defensively. Amazed we held on to him for so long. Travesty he missed the '87 cup final David Speedie - Always could create something, or score a goal Dion Dublin - So good in the air. Great target man, but...

    Worst Team - Wingers

When we actually HAD wingers, they were for the most part great - Bennett, Froggatt, D.Smith spring to mind. However since I've been following The City ('86 onwards) there were a host of players playing out of position wide. I still have ghastly thoughts about in no particular order: Sean Flynn...

    Seldom mentioned legends...

Yes! He was brilliant in that 92/93 season. Gould converted him into a central midfielder, and he scored a 30 yarder at Blackburn that season. He had pace, and was hard in the tackle. Would of gone onto great things.

    Reda

With Ricketts experience and the excellent form of Martin, I think we'll be better covered in defence this season than we were last campaign when Reda was out for long periods. I trust that Mowbray would bring in the right loan player if need be. I think a serious injury to Fleck or Vincelot...

    Reda and Ricketts

I always assumed Ricketts was a centre half, and could fill in a right back. I was worried when he started playing there, we've had some disasters at emergency full back down the years. Ricketts is looking excellent though, good distribution as well. Seems to still have a bit of pace too

    Shrewsbury (Home) Match thread

Adam Armstrong is the real deal, first time I have watched him live. Lightning pace, great touch, excellent eye for goal. What a player. I can't remember seeing so much pace in the City side since the Premiership days. Thought Rickets was excellent, dealt with the Shrews tricky left winger...

Would Gordon Strachan have won us promotion?

Strachan was dealt a bad blow in the summer of 2000, losing Keane and more importantly McCallister (who went on to have a superb season at Liverpool). That alone was the nail in the coffin. Bellamy went on to be an excellent player but in 2000/2001 he was playing his first season after almost a...

Do You Remember Doyle & Hughes?

Although being out of the Ricoh, and a 'club in crisis', isn't it a little more exciting than those horrible lower mid table seasons in the Championship under Reid / Adams / Dowie / Coleman / Boothroyd? I remember that Hughes/Doyle partnership like the ugliest girl you bedded! Hughes, was...
