Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

I'm happy to give Wright a run as CF with EMC on the left. I have often wondered if EMC could play as CF, given that little purple scoring patch he had. It's probably not his best position but I would be prepared to give it a go if (a) we don't get another striker in (though I'm sure we will)...

Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

I wonder if he does or whether it's just that he saw him as our best option at CF given that Simms, BTA and Bassette weren't exactly banging the goals in for fun and (when fit) EMC is a good option at LW.

I subscribe to the Telegraph and the Guardian in order to get a balanced perspective on things. 👍

Tax turnover and you will be taxing genuine loss-making companies. As a retired tax lawyer I am well aware of some of the wheezes used to massage profits. HMRC need to get some top brains on board and stamp it out to a greater degree than they presently seem capable of.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

10,000 millionaires left the country last year and 16,500 are predicted to do so this year. It's what you would expect and what has happened in the past. It's why Polly Toynbee has suggested an exit tax to force people to stay, which is a despicable approach. Reeves is apparently thinking of...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

So you would tax loss-making companies? That runs the risk of denying them the opportunity of recovering and driving them into insolvency.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

It's not that easy. International conglomerates use transfer pricing and intellectual property licensing arrangements to ensure that significant chunks of their profits are booked in low tax jurisdiction. The classic example is the large US corporations that shift profits to Ireland, where they...

The incomes of the self-employed and small businesses are expected to rise less than previously expected because of the changes - principally National Insurance and minimum wage - made in the Budget. The shortfall is against the previous forecast.

Figures revised downwards by the OBR in March and other forecasters are even more pessimistic.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Absolutely. This has been a problem with every Labour government that I can remember, going back to Harold Wilson in the 1960s. They calculate the likely revenue from new or increased taxes on the assumption that there is no change in the behaviour of the affected taxpayers. What usually...

Your fault for believing that he had the stamina and speed to play as a wing back.

Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

I assume that you are referring to Gykores, Hamer and O'Hare. There is no way that any of them were staying. We sold Vik and Gus for decent money and reinvested the proceeds in strengthening the squad. Unless and until we get taken over by a mega-rich US or Middle-Eastern entity it's how clubs...

    cricket 2025

I know it’s not fashionable to enforce the follow-on these days but I wonder if India might, given that that could well have a first innings lead of around 400 😳

Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

I think the fact that we have got a replacement in early means we won’t be so desperate to sell, which could help us to hold out for a better price. It’s true we will need a second RB if MVE goes but the pressure is a bit less as it is for cover and we do have Lati and also Eccles as things stand.

This is me, moments after hearing the news that we have signed him on a season-long loan deal:

I do. I think we have generally got better deals under him than under most ownerships for quite some time. He's quite astute in my opinion.

I reckon £10-£12 million plus performance-related add-ons that could take it to £15 million would be a good deal. I'd also like a 15% sell-on clause. If we can better any of these terms then I'd be a very happy man 🙂

Everton reportedly circling for MVE. Their fans seem to think they can get him for a bargain price, though it is unclear on what that is based: probably just wishful thinking. We need at least a couple of clubs to be competing for him.

Absolutely love it. In Jimmy Hill's day he would have had them along to provide the half time entertainment. C'mon Doug!
