If you're arguing that due to a lack of staff the NHS shouldn't require vaccination against covid shouldn't you also be against the existing vaccination requirements for NHS staff or is there some particular reason it should only apply to the covid vaccine?

Assume the drivers need a HGV license, how much do the drivers get paid? I've got a couple of job alerts setup for anything that comes up in Cov and every day there's multiple job ads for HGV drivers paying £40K plus. If there's a shortage of drivers and therefore bigger salaries being offered...

Its hard to know what to think about the variant. Still early days and more data needed but some reports seem to suggest nothing to worry about while others indicate the opposite. This one from Reuters for example.

    Maddisson

They need to make up their mind on the rules first. Every week the 'experts' on TV are saying go down if there's contact and you'll get a penalty. Add in super slo mo with VAR to see if there's the slightest touch and its going to get worse not better. Needs the FA to remind the officials and...

Depends which stats you want to look at. Its unlikely to be listed as a cause of death but PHE produces stats about the number of deaths where obesity is a factor and those are the figures that are used to decide policy, treatment paths etc.

I'm talking specifically about hospitalisation from covid in this instance. If you take 100 people and variant A infects say 10 people with 1 hospitalised but variant b infects 50 people with 2 hospitalised it could be said to be milder but because its more infectious that equates to twice as...

What odds on season being postponed?

If it gets that bad then more restrictions will be in place so in theory there should be less risk of players catching it. Behind closed doors again far more likely than the season being postponed or ended early.

The issue I've seen mentioned by people who seem to check out as knowing what they are on about and not people trying to whip up a frenzy is that the increased transmission more than offsets the reduced severity. That potentially means that overall the number of hospitalisations increases.

I reckon its guesswork. The ONS do figures for what they think is the level of infection is the UK, looks like the last figures were 891,500. Have they tried to work something up from there based on how much more transmissible it is and percentage of positive tests that are the new variant?

Singers corner closed for Derby game!

Sounds about right, problem outside the ground so they bring in restrictions in the ground 😂 What I don't get is there's occasions where there are incidents at pretty much every other ground in the country but they don't get the OTT response we get.

I might be reading it wrong but isn't that a peak after two doses but with waning immunity drops to 36.1% for AZ and 46.7% for Pfizer.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Starmer's got a huge Union Flag behind him giving his response and going on about patriotic duty. Victory now certain.

Singers corner closed for Derby game!

The club really need to be pushing back against this and demanding some explanation. If necessary have a word with the local media and get them to run pieces embarrassing whoever is making these desicons. Hopefully there will come a point when we can sell out the stadium and if we can't use...

Singers corner closed for Derby game!

Over the top response to say the least. All things like this does is whip the supporters up into a frenzy increasing the chance of trouble. Just put proper crowd management in place that happens at every single other ground in the county.

UK Health Security Agency has said there's 10 people in hospital with the variant. Aged between 18 and 85 and they are spread around the country, "diagnosed with Omicron on or before admission". Most were double jabbed.

That's a Times journalist, don't think he discovered Omicron. But he answers the question in his follow up tweets, there are potential issues around the number of tests being carried out. The figures we really need are hospitalisations and deaths and there is a lag in obtaining those so caution...

There was similar the other day. Modelling was done for various scenarios as so much is unknown with the variant but the media all went with the worse case scenario.

Its a mess. I've no idea why I could go online and make an appointment for a weeks time, pre-pandemic, but now I can't go online and book a phone appointment, or even book one for later this week if I speak to someone at the surgery. If you phone up and they've got no appointments left today...

My surgery has 8 doctors and 2 nurses! Also 2 of my 3 covid jabs have been weekends so nice bit of overtime for the doctors. But really its just another thing where covid has highlighted how the system isn't really fit for purpose. Thinks like phone & video appointments should have been an...
