If you put yourself in Hoffman's position, and a guy makes claims of having millions, he then shows you some "proof" of that, then you can understand why he would entertain him. How far can you go at that point to make sure he really does have any money? Seems he entertained him for awhile...

Nick The potential problem with this is he has to admit he has lied, and be sorry for it. The guy I have mentioned would still argue that everything he said was true, no matter how much "proof" you showed him. He would probably accuse you of doctoring said "proof"...

Maybe. This guy had already put his family at risk by not paying any maintenance for his wife and young kids, but none of his mates knew that. I guess they saw all his bullshit as harmless until he conned one of their own group. Different story to Dale of course, but even then, none of them...

Agreed. That was my point really. The guy I mentioned, no-one considered him mentally ill, even after knowing him and hearing his bullshit for 30 odd years, so we can't just assume it from a message board and facebook...

I think it's my first post on this subject, as I never believed it from the moment he spouted his crap on CWR. I worked with a guy for about 6 years in the 80's, not closely, but in the same office. He was a great lad, really sociable and funny. Would help you out if you needed it, always up...
