    So I've read. It was a comment in a Dutch newspaper article, I don't know the details. I know that after the vote to reject Ukraine associate membership of the EU the Dutch government passed a totally bogus piece of legislation which effectively nullified the result of the referendum.

    They had good reasons at the time. It would have meant massive investment in new tooling with money they simply didn't have in the post war years. Germany on the other had massive new factories equipped with the latest machine tools and a very large pool of cheap but highly skilled labour.
