Match Thread Hull (A) Friday 15th September

Sakamoto and Kitchen for the two Jamaicans would seem the logical thing. But having just conceded three goals at home and as we are up against good opposition, it maybe appropriate to be a bit more defensive. So Kitchen and Sakamoto in, but also Kelly in for Godden and go one up front. Haji is...

    Mike Ashley buying another stadium?

...if it has the potential to make money. Some things are distressed for a reason, so not 'anything'. There must be unfulfilled revenue opportunities that can be released relatively easily. Nobody ever said that about a football club. I suspect he quite fancies the idea of 'The Fraser Arena...

    Mike Ashley buying another stadium?

Read my lips. He...was...never...interested...in...buying...us. Why on earth would he? He's been there, done that, got the T shirt and the scars. The ground is an asset he can exploit, a club is a money pit. He quite likes money.

Our midfield - do we have problems?

Early results tend indicate that - new contenders in Hull, Birmingham, Preston and Ipswich. Promoted teams (Ipswich again) not dead cert relegation candidates. Covid induced financials have now run out. Money is talking again.

Our midfield - do we have problems?

Allen would have been handy yesterday, presumably in place of Eccles. But City would still have been outnumbered in midfield. Watford had done their homework about how City use wing backs and play from the back

    Ratings v watford

Wilson - Distribution shocking, and that third goal, I mean I ask you. Back 3 - very uncoordinated. Two goals from the pocket behind the wing back and one almighty cock up. Wing backs - Van Ewik is a real find. Da Silva I am not sure why we wanted him so desperately; totally at fault for their...

Our midfield - do we have problems?

I thought Eccles played well, better than Sheaf. At least he did some of the donkey work in midfield. We were underpowered in that department so he was left with a tough job. Disappointed he was subbed.

Our midfield - do we have problems?

The midfield problem is mainly but not totally numbers. We previously had four in midfield led by Hamer. Now we have three with only Palmer who 'makes things happen'. And Godden is not the player to fill the gap. Take your pick, two strikers or four in midfield?

    Match Thread Watford (h)

Basically for a lot of the time they played like they barely knew one another, which of course they don't. Posted it before but last Spring the first team included 7 with at least 2.5 years together (plus 3 loans plus Bidwell). That counts. It will take time

    Match Thread Watford (h)

My first game this year. 10 things 1. There is no point playing tippy tappy at the back if all you do is give the opposition time to settle and reorganize. If Wilson has no obvious pass, he might just as well bang it up - particularly with a big unit like Wright up front. 2.Tippy tappy at the...

    Transfer targets

This is rebuild year, not panic year. If no deals are done, so be it. O'Hare back soon. Many said that expectations should be lower this year. So the logic of that is that we will lose and draw where we might have expected to draw or win and performance will be variable. And the expectation...

You all want your brains testing. A year of misery moaning on here about how poor the side are and how the investment has been rubbish, 'taxi for Robins', McFadz is not this level, Godden too old yada yada yada. Being thumped 4-1 or 4-0 on a regular basis home and away. Then ignominious...

    Palmer's back heel flick

That back flick is his party piece. He set up Hamer's goal v Stoke away last season with exactly the same flick

Would you rather be a Luton fan or a City fan right now? Personally I am glad Dabo missed. Another season to build a better team - using Vik & Gus money plus anything DK throws in. Luton are outclassed, just as we would have been.

Match Thread Coventry City - Middlesbrough Match Thread - Saturday 12th Aug

Last season, Eccles looked very handy in a DMF role (when Sheaf was out). I was always puzzled as to why everybody saw him as an attacking midfielder. With two strikers now, midfield can only be three - so Sheaf, Eccles with Palmer / O'Hare in front.
