    The official NFL Thread

Strange twist in Kaepernick story. He and Reid settled jointly for less than 10m. Kaepernick base salary alone was 12m.

Missing the point. Not disputing the popularity (or indeed quality) of some of these policies. What I fail to see is the evidence in falling popularity of policies just because people found out they are Corbyn's.

Slightly ironic as it was the day Blair came out with his opposition to a European superstate and single currency that The Sun switched sides

But surely the Blair majorities showed there are enough swing voters to make a big difference? Took an 8% ?? swing to get him in and even 2 notable swings away in next 2 elections still saw him hold big majorities.

Have to applaud Speaker telling MPs that they are not traitors and are voting with their consciences. Maybe the way forward is to properly remove the whip system completely to allow free votes on all issues. But maybe only when they can repair the perceived disconnect between politicians and...

So how do they not win an election? The swing vote is there. Is Labour so wholly untrustworthy that it isn't to be believed? Nonsense we've had modern Labour Govts. Is Corbyn so unpopular that he negates all the policy appeal? Can't be. Maybe the rumours of him being ousted if there was a...

Every cycle? We are on a run of Tory Govts which started with a coalition and has ended with something similar. Before that we had the Blair Govts which commanded huge majorities. what is it 12 Tory Govts vs 9 Labour since WW2? Hardly conclusive People have far greater access to manifestos and...

So it's still the same issue individual policies maybe popular regardless of whose they are. People vote for a total group of policies rather individual ones. Don't think many Agreed with university fees for example but it wasn't enough on its own to deter voters. Every party has vote winners...

Not at all. Nobody is going to move too far from the centre as it's electoral suicide.

Exactly. Popular policies that are clearly marked as Corbyns. Not rejected when people find out they are Corbyn's.

So you're saying Corbyn is hard left? I'm talking about the culture of any political party being adapted to its leader - thatcherite, blairite, corbynista

This is what will hold labour back when moderates/blairites etc are referred to as Tories. When the left attacks its middle or the right attacks its middle it breeds mistrust in large numbers of swing voters. Wait and see the damage to the Conservative party whichever part "wins" the brexit...

UKIP's level of support at last GE showed what people thought of their politics once they moved from basically a single issue party to a far right agenda 1.8% of votes cast. I'd like to see some data about these polls that show how popular they are but aren't so much when voters are told they...

want to check Dutch elections yesterday or opinion polls for this May's elections. Natural checks and balances. Even Juncker has admitted Brussels has to put a check on its levels of interference in National issues. Some remainers just as guilty of burying their heads in the sand as those that...

What i find extraordinary is that we have Labour activists trying to replace so-called moderate MPs with what they term "corbynistas". When you try to adapt a party to its leader or an individual you're treading on thin ice - did we learn nothing from Thatcherism? Aren't we seeing atm how an...

again this is another group with diverse viewpoints - diehard remainers, leavers who don't like the leave option on offer etc. Still difficult to get majority support with public or Parliament. Commentators currently saying still more chance of No Deal than Article 50 being revoked. But much...
