    Wasps downward spiral...

I'll keep banging this drum. Rugby Union isn't as big as it thinks it is. Basically entire North of the country covered by 2 professional Union clubs who can't manage attendances of more 13k between them. How can so many large cities have no professional team? Birmingham, Liverpool Rugby special...

    Wasps downward spiral...

All outrageous. One of the main things senior people involved did to get fellow council members on board (and back selling to Wasps) was the push "economic development of the area around the Arena" angle. Nothing done since then apart from block a new hotel & Macdonalds next to the Arena

    Wasps downward spiral...

kind of ironic in that Worcester weren't happy with Wasps moving into the area in the first place - youth recruitment and poaching supporters

yep on the junk yard. Wanted to have a Marriott and Macdonalds as well. Council said out of the centre and traffic issues.

Probably difficult to find investors to build a hotel in these COVID times and all the bond furore wouldn't have helped.

    Wasps downward spiral...

Worcester symptomatic of several professional rugby clubs ( and more than a few football clubs). Completely reliant on owners money as not viable businesses. then sadly in these cases owner dies and family aren't interested in continuing on.

Also any commercial lender is going to want a full report on actual stadium valuation and these reported repairs that need doing. Nothing in Wasps historic financial performance to show they can service a 10 year loan. Add in level of debt to owner and it just looks shaky

    Wasps downward spiral...

seems hard to believe they can raise new funds from a "commercial" source when the bondholders would hold the first option on the main asset. Again there is nothing in the historic performance of the Arena to suggest it is a money spinner or that income streams can be dramatically increased in...

    F1 2022

Yep. F1 can spin it how they want but it's still the same as before. One team well ahead of the rest. It's not competitive enough. It's fine there's a bit better racing in the low point areas but DRS needs tweaking to prevent these continual "DRS trains" that are tedious. Perez is the new...

Don't think it's a huge amount - some rent, parking (most of Styles' fans aren't old enough to drive) and F&B (not sure what the F&B % is)

    Wasps downward spiral...

Hotels, Bars, Concert Venues and other similar businesses went under all over the country and so the fact that we are still here is a testament to how well the club is run. They've had so much advance money against future income plus COVID loans etc. They've scalped their players wages. Man's...

    Wasps downward spiral...

exactly right. Had 17/18 years of various stadium management entities and none have managed to do much with it. All sorts of large catering, corporate & entertainment partners and again none have cracked it.

    Wasps downward spiral...

Article fairly gloomy for the future anyway. It's money upfront rather than extra money ( much like the TV money etc they've already used). Plus there's the 10 odd million borrowed from govt during COVID.

    Wasps downward spiral...

It basically goes back to the initial loan the council took out to finish the stadium. Ccfc rent reduced the original amount but that loan basically hasn't been cleared in 17 years of stadium management. In one guise or another it remains.

    Kevin Maton

Catch 22. Pour support into a business that doesn't look capable of surviving much past the short term even with help now. Get hammered for that as well. A businessman would take the loss, a politician will go down with ship

We'll never know. Like the full council meeting to sell to Wasps remains sealed !!!

Sorry but go through Maton's Twitter and it's a barrage of national debt and govt spending failures. Everyone paid their taxes then it might alleviate the situation somewhat !!
