I agree. That first season in the championship should tell us that three strikers is probably not enough in many seasons but then they're the most expensive elements of the squad in both cost and wages. We certainly can't afford to be carrying anyone.

Simmo played 40 odd games last season too. That's an awful lot of time on the pitch just to write off, even if he doesn't score very often.

What is he? 21? A bit of a late developer physically, perhaps. He'll not want to end up in L1 or L2 at his age, I'm sure that he'd rather go abroad. If he survives the "welcome" then he'll come back useful. I reckon he'll be training with the first team next summer and it's a take it from there...

He seemed to play low 30s number of games each season. I don't think last year was significantly any different and that's not a bad return. The idea that he's "injury prone" is completely ingrained now but then apparently so was Godden who knocked up 40 odd games at Charlton last season. I think...

I don't see the figures behind your pruning the squad train of thought. We've registered around 23, or 24 senior players with the EFL pretty consistently. We've actually added U-21s and the GKs to kid the other sides that the squad is bigger than it really has been.
