Match Thread Coventry City vs. AFC Wimbledon Match Thread - Tuesday 17th Sep

Not disputing what you & ccfcway say, but if you look on this thread and others, you will see there are plenty of our supporters who would ordinarily go on a Saturday, that will be remaining at home watching it on iFollow. That's the reality.

Match Thread Coventry City vs. AFC Wimbledon Match Thread - Tuesday 17th Sep

Midweek games being in Birmingham rather than Cov, and the availability of IFollow to users without having to pretend to be be abroad, will inevitably affect the attendance more than for a Saturday game, particularly if the opposition are not a great draw. Given the start we have had I reckon...

    Player ratings

Man of the Match for me was Hyam, closely followed by McFadzean. Walsh was fantastic 1st first half, but was less effective & faded a little in the 2nd. Be interesting to see what Robins does when Kelly is fit. Barring a catalogue of injuries or a change of formation I don't see them playing in...

How many World Cups did we qualify for in the 70's?

SBT - great Friday afternoon chuckle

Wasps will play enough home games that can be targeted for protest, without having to pick one that clashes with a City match. If we carry on in our current form the MK game will inevitably attract another huge away following for us. Surely it would be better for the Trust to pick a televised...

    Changing a winning team

Robins tends to be quite conservative in his team selections, so I suspect he will stick with Westbrooke and Shipley for the moment. If O'Hare were to start I would prefer if he keeps Shipley in ahead of Westbrooke, as he provides a better balance to the team on that left hand side together with...

    Sky blues.....shooting to win

Kastaneer is a strange player to me. From what I've seen so far I don't see him being a starter, barring a catalogue of injuries. He does however look like he can produce the unexpected, be it a shot hitting the corner flag or a screamer into the top corner with his weaker foot. I get the...

Perhaps in his efforts to learn English, he has been reading this forum and he was cupping his ear to his critics on here :)

    Rose tinted glasses

I thought until Dabo's first own goal that for all Oxford's pressure, that Rose and Hyam were soaking it all up fairly comfortably, clearing all their corners etc, and were our best players. You can't countenance for own goals like Dabo's. I don't think McFadzean coming on would have changed...

    Ratings versus Oxford

If you also look at those highlights you will see Kelly visibly slow up when he realises the Oxford player will get to the ball first, which makes his decision to then dive in a particularly bad one. It would have also helped though if someone had gone to back him up, but all our players stayed...

    Positives

Agree with your positives. In terms of negatives though, I would say the draw at Bolton is an effective 2 point loss to all our rivals, which could prove costly at the end of the season, and secondly that we have had a fairly easy group of fixtures so far, which probably provides a poor guide to...

    Ratings versus Oxford

Much unfair marking & comments on McCallum here without any recognition that he was hung out to dry by a lack of support from Hiwula, and was having to cover both Henry and Cadden on his own as a result. Mason wold have also struggled under those same circumstances.

Also spotted that Mick Coop was coach to the 1986/87 youth cup winning side.

Foreign players who never really made it...

Cedric Roussel did ok. Clement should have been a top player for us. Got injured then Strachan never gave him another look in. Ended up playing over 100 times for Belgium.

Gallacher joined us as a winger but mostly played as a forward. In terms of effectiveness Bennett provided more for us than Hadji did, as he was far more consistent. However, Ndlovu was ahead of them all in my book.

    TV Game

How much do we get for a televised game? If say the crowd is 3,000 would the TV money definitely cover our drop in attendance? I suspect there will not be much in it.

Sky Blue youth superstars who never made it...

Looks like the 1969/70 team had the biggest success rate including Alan Dugdale, Jimmy Holmes, Denis Mortimer, Mick McGuire, Bobby Parker and Les Cartwright. Colin Randell also had a decent league career at Plymouth. David Icke of course took a different path!! Ironically the once we won it in...

Sky Blue youth superstars who never made it...

That's pretty harsh. Yes McSheffrey was highly rated, and perhaps could have achieved more but he had a pretty good career. There are plenty others named here that were as highly rated as youngsters, but then barely played a dozen games. I

It was under SISU. Got a feeling Hoffman gave it as his reason for resigning from the board, or was it Ranson, or both?

Sky Blue youth superstars who never made it...

Think we had a left back called David Barnes in the early 80's who was a youth international. Played a few games but that was it. Another one who had a great reputation was Richard Spong, who came from Sweden as the new Roland Nilsson. He played in one of our youth cup finals but seemed to...
