The only thing it might do that I can think of on the spur of the moment that is detrimental (assuming the bid is successful) is encourage Wasps to use (assuming they have it) their veto as they may not want to go halves with someone who is, or says they are going to bugger off after a few years.

No one knows who has the council veto (see the article), so no one knows if Wasps can veto anything.
