FA Cup Replays / Too Many Games Argument

While I understand non league clubs wanting the guaranteed extra money for playing games against PL teams away rather than at home, this idea detracts even more 'romance' from the cup, and would simply make progression even easier for the big PL clubs. If ever a PL club is to get beat or made...

...... but if he was aloof or disinterested you would no doubt slate him for that judging from your recent posts! Bassette is just an enthusiatic 20 year old, living the dream, with his life full speed ahead of him. While he's a bit hit and miss at the moment, if he turns into the real deal we...

Match Thread Coventry City - Sheffield Wednesday [FA] Match Thread - Saturday 11th Jan

I really don't get wanting your team to get knocked out of the FA Cup. Even these days where it is not such an important competition as it was, it still brings the potential of interest, glamour and extra finance that League games do not bring. I could sort of see a point if it was...

Oggy named our greatest ever player.

Pretty sure Ian Wallace had been picked for the squad too, so I guess you might have been hoping he would play too. We certainly had a load of great Scottish players right through the 70's from Ian Gibson, Roy Barry, Willie Carr, Colin Stein, Tommy Hutchison, Blyth, Wallace, Bobby McDonald, Jim...

Oggy named our greatest ever player.

Great commentary by Hugh Johns, who was a feature of Star Soccer, and the highlight of Sunday's in the 70's :)

Oggy named our greatest ever player.

Your memory isn't quite correct. Although Blyth got blamed for the goal, and it was a reason used to justify keeping the hapless Alan Rough in goal, it was all a bit of an urban myth as the fault really lied with Willie Donachie. Although he didn't have the longevity of Glazier or Oggy for...

    Recoupable amount

Given Eccles age, length of contract and Championship experience I think £4m is not far off, given we bought Kitching and EMC from League 1 for round about that figure.

For us maybe, but not over their whole careers.

Tommy Hutchison for me. Interesting reading Hutch's book that Sillett tried to bring him back to Cov in the 86-87 season. Would have been really fitting if he had some involvement with our cup winning team.

    Ability or Application?

Tavares for BTA would have been pretty risk free, while Allen was out on his feet by that time so Torp could have come on for him. The whole point though would have been for BTA & Allen to walk off the pitch very slowly, applauding the fans, shaking hands with the ref etc, and killing a bit of...

Match Thread Norwich City - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 4th Jan

Oggy put the jinx on it during his commentary by earlier saying defenders get those fouls given 99 times out of a 100, even though they are buying them. Just our luck that we got that 1 time in a 100 against us at such a critical point in the match 😡

I didn't want MR gone either, and was frankly amazed how many on here were happy to get rid of him, given all he had achieved with us. Although it can't be proven either way, I'm also confident that under MR we would have accrued more points from the games played since he was sacked. Given his...

    We look poor

Was a bit surprised Lampard didn't make another substitution, particularly after they equalised. It was obvious then that the head of steam they had built up would result in at least one more chance, and a slowly taken substitution could have given our players a better chance to regroup and...

FA cup 3rd round. Thirteen quid. Not bad.

Ok, well I'm glad those that didn't want a cup run last season were disappointed, and hope that you/ they will be equally disappointed this season.

FA cup 3rd round. Thirteen quid. Not bad.

You are joking? There were plenty of posters on here saying the same this time last year (and every year for that matter) about concentrating on the league, and it strikes me that another cup run is just what we need to boost the morale of the players and supporters alike.

    Asante

The keeper was stood upright and not in position to spread himself. If BTA hit the ball hard and low there's every chance it would have gone in. His other option was to take it round the keeper and possibly buy a penalty from the keeper or the retreating defenders, although I'm not sure BTA...

    Ben Sheaf to Leeds?

In terms of the rights and wrongs of selling Sheaf and/ or MVE now, I would only consider doing so if we received a ridiculously high bid. If estimates of £6m for MVE and £8m for Sheaf are correct I would rather hang on to the Summer. That would also allow us a bigger and better pool of players...
