    Player ratings v sheff weds

The thing is that over half your posts are spent slagging off Eccles, even when he was playing better earlier in the season. He really isn't as bad as you think he is!

Not sure I agree. MVE certainly didn't have a good game, but until Saka came on he had no support against winger and wing back as Lati was reluctant to move over to the right. His chasing after the loose ball at the end of the game and keeping it alive also led to the winner, even if the keeper...

    Overrated players

He was as good as his legendary status suggests! We certainly wouldn't have been better by playing Houchen week in week out, or later on Drinkell. Our main problem after the cup win was that he was our only major buy. We were crying out for a decent left back, and signing one would have had us...

    Eustace to Derby

I remember there being plenty of posters calling for Bloomfield, Edwards and the Oxford manager that got sacked to replace Robins. I suspect however if Lampard hadn't taken the job, Eustace would have been next in line.

    Overrated players

I was one of those that wanted him given his chance at the time. His goals record in the academy was just so good that it seemed nuts not to give him a chance when we were struggling for goals. When he did play he also scored a couple of goals that made him look like a natural finisher, albeit...

    Overrated players

It does seem that a lot of posters on here didn't understand the OP's question!! The most overrated for me was Richard Shaw. How a player of such limited ability played so many games for us in the PL is astonishing.

Don't the rest of the team have some responsibility to utilise the extra space freed up by them putting 2 players on him?

It's because the system that got us those 4 wins seems to have been found out. Granted that was by better teams than QPR, but make no mistake, QPR will have looked at our last 2 games and will likewise try to exploit our defence's high line and individual defensive weaknesses. The introduction...

Match Thread Coventry City - Queens Park Rangers Match Thread - Tuesday 11th Feb

I would like us to go back to 4-3-3 but if Dasilva is left back that is a problem. 4-3-3 also allows us to play Van Ewijk and Sakamoto together who are both much more effective when the other is in the team. My choice of team would therefore be: Dovin Van Ewijk Thomas Kitching Burroughs Eccles...

    Jack burroughs

I know it won't happen but if Bidwell was not fit for the QPR game I think I would rather Burroughs play than Dasilva.

Agree on this. What was the point of keeping Burroughs as back up to MVE when you don't play him if MVE is rested?

Asante doesn't strike me as a natural sole striker. Perhaps Lampard is saving Bassette for a penalty shoot out!

When Godden got his goals for us they always seemed to come in prolific spurts, surrounded either side by much drier spells.

I'm ok with that as long as he doesn't change the keeper. If he wants to bring in Binks, Dasilva, Eccles, Sakamoto and Bassette then fine.

    Preferred Team and System

If everyone was fit and in form I would favour 4-3-3: Dovin Van Ewjik Thomas Kitching Bidwell Sheaf, Rudoni, Grimes Sakamoto Wright Mason-Clark

    The Oliver Dovin appreciation thread

He certainly likes the old trick of slowing up as he approaches the ball and then falling over when he feels the slightest touch. It cost us at Norwich but he gets away with it mostly. As Oggy said in commentary the other night if you are going to do it make sure you fall on the ball, but...

    Jamie Allen nomination

They are ahead of Eccles in the pecking order right now, and on form since the Plymouth game fairly so. I would be surprised if they are both still ahead of Eccles come the end of the season however.

Match Thread Coventry City vs Leeds United - Match Thread - Weds 5th Feb 7.45pm KO

Leeds are clearly the best team in the league, but plenty of other Championship teams have provided them more of a test away from Elland Road than we did tonight. Hopefully its a lesson learned for Lampard as we were set up far too passively in the first half. The only way to beat Leeds was to...

You make it sound like we have a choice. No point making no effort in the cup game if our 'first team' end up losing the other games.
