Favourite football ground that no longer exists (excluding HR)

Burnden Park, for no other reason that it was a regular sight when entering or leaving Bolton by train.

    Things that annoy you

My dentist takes the opportunity to lecture me on all the things I can and can't do after I leave the surgery: "No alcohol for three days". Yeah right, as if that's ever going to happen!

Tories plan to raise retirement age to 75

In theory yes. In practice most new pensioners receive less than that. The Department for Work and Pensions says the average weekly sum being paid to people eligible for the new State pension is £154.70. 37% of pensioners claiming under the new system are receiving less than £150 a week. Will...

    To paraphrase Napoleon...

Napoleon [is alleged to have] said "I would rather have lucky generals than good ones". I feel the same way about players and you don't get much luckier than that.

I'd sooner have lucky players than good ones!

    Excellent free sports TV!

There's a version of Freesports on Freeview but it's nothing like HD quality, not even DVD quality. The Freesat version is full HD though...

    Film Thread 2019

Alita:Battle Angel is a reasonably enjoyable way of spending a couple of hours. As usual for this type of film the storyline plays second fiddle to the visual effects. Best viewed on a big screen in 4K or 3D. The Honest Trailer sells it better than the official trailer:

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Nah, it will be for just six months and 'absolutely final' (until the next one).

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

You're assuming anything is going to happen on 1st November, I'm not. It's most likely there'll be another extension.

    A Bolton Wanderers question

It was one of the last which is why we bought a ticket to Bury rather than somewhere more interesting. The Wanderer's stadium was next to Bolton station in those days and Horwich - where the current 'Bolton' stadium is located - was the former headquarters of the Lancashire and Yorkshire...

    A Bolton Wanderers question

It's a flipping long walk from Coventry though. Visited Bury once by steam train (from Bolton), oddly enough passed Old Trafford on the way there. There was a cricket match in progress.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

They're 'capable' alright, they simply don't believe in it. Cameron didn't, May didn't and I'm not convinced Boris does either.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Not really. They've stopped a "Brexit in name only" from happening ie: May's treasonous sell-out to the EU-Superstate.

What is going on with the Tory leadership contest?

Now for the important stuff... 5 dresses to buy if you loved Carrie Symonds' sell-out Ghost one While political reporters gathered to cling onto Johnson's every line, fashion fans became fixated on Symonds' ensemble. The former PR chief was seen making her first appearance as the...

Whatever happened to the comedy single?

The first and for a long time biggest Benny Hill hit from 1961. (Some of the lyrics may sound familiar?)

    Beach Towel

Oddly enough it did at one time. Where the river ran shallow there were stretches of sand along the side which locals referred to as "the beach". One was at the bottom of Gulson Road where the garage now is. Funfairs were held there in the 1950s. I believe there was another sandy stretch along...
