Not young in the modern sense ( which is now crazily low ) but young enough to still improve materially and sell on at a very good fee at the contract end when he will be approaching his peak … these are the things that determine price.
Agreed but often because the player becomes aware of an even better offer from another club …. It happened to us last summer with the guy who chose Forest over us when we thought it was a done deal that he was joining us.
Exactly. If we have made 2 bids it’s because the agent believes the player will come to City and personal terms won’t be a problem, and probably that the agent has indicated to City that the player is available if the right value is created.
A lot of these numbers are likely to be the full deal potential costs…. Ie it’s £m plus performance add ons, plus more again if we go up etc … it makes for useful headlines but it’s a bit misleading ….
