The period between Jimmy Hill and Gordon Milne....

I can't understand the fascination with Allison, OK he did well at Man City under Mercer but was a disaster at Palace and not much better when he returned to Man City. Personally I think he would have been a disaster if he had managed us. Under Cantwell we had our most successful season ever, he...

The period between Jimmy Hill and Gordon Milne....

Riyad has a good memory. The Noel Cantwell era was my favourite, finishing 6th in 1970. Cantwell's motto was "attack, attack, attack" in his words.

He was very nearly a Coventry player, turned down by Jimmy Hill as a trialist.

    Victims Of Our Own Success?

I think most people would understand what I was saying. There is absolutely no point at all ridiculing people just because they have a different point of view.

    Victims Of Our Own Success?

Have you read what I wrote? no goals conceded, 5 scored in 2 games and top of the league. I would call that 2 very successful results

    Victims Of Our Own Success?

We seem to be victims of our own success in the first 2 games. We won them with what was essentially a defensive setup with 2 deep midfielders, when Notts C and Grimsby were still not settled into their best formation / team / tactics. Notts C would not have expected Jones to do what he did...

    Anyone still believe.....

Luton have only 1 point more than us WITH James Collins. Its just too early to start throwing the towel in. In 2015 season when we had that great start Wigan had a very average start and ended up walking away with the title. Need to give it a few more games before we start panicking

And it brought us back to the Ricoh. And it will make our owners think twice before doing something that stupid again

Yes, and if we can win this game with relative comfort I think some of this early euphoria will start to turn into real optimism.

    Next 6 Fixtures

By 5PM on Saturday we should have a much clearer idea of how good we really are. Newport are a potential banana skin, and will relish playing us as division leaders. A lot of people think Nouble will score. How we handle this game should tell us a lot .

I suppose it depends what time you get home and what state you are in.

    Next 6 Fixtures

I think we need a bit of luck with injuries and suspensions (or lack of), but if we can avoid several long term absences I see no reason why we can't keep the number of defeats to single figures.

    Next 6 Fixtures

That's true, but there is no team in the next 6 we should expect to be beaten by. There is not a Luton, Mansfield, Lincoln etc in that list, the teams fancied to do well, and teams who will most likely give us the hardest games. We could lose them all but to me that run of games provides us with...

Match Thread Grimsby Town - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 12th Aug

Good point. I think its pretty conclusive that the keeper wasn't expecting to take the free kick, whatever Clarke's intention was.

Match Thread Grimsby Town - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 12th Aug

Assuming Grimsby didn't intend the ball to be in play when Clarke kicked it back, the keeper would have then had to pick the ball up, and place it in the correct place to take the kick, leaving them open to the ref interpreting that the free kick had already been taken and the keeper had handled...

It looked to me that his signal to the goalkeeper was just to alert him that the ball was being played back to him. Otherwise why didn't the keeper come to the ball.
