Do you want to discuss boring politics?

There's a lot to be said for that mate, and that approach. I love cars and bikes, but there are more important things in life than having a shiny new one, at least to me. Maybe I'd feel different if I was better off! That said, keeping an old motor on the road feels like a full time job sometimes!

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure your motor is lovely, and keeping old cars on the road is arguably a very green policy. But at that age it might be heading for an expensive fix at some point, so might not be an ideal solution for everyone. Also, as demand rises, so do prices - our old (ULEZ...

Stepping away from ULEZ for a moment, but on a related thread, it just seems obvious to me that we have to move to an economic system that puts the environment at its centre. It is utterly bizarre that we're actively, deliberately wrecking the planet because we can't "afford" to do things...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Spent a few good nights in the SU at Brunel, but that was a long time ago. Getting into the centre of London was a long old ride on the tube, but a bit like Coventry it was even more painful if you were heading to an adjoining borough because much of the transport was radial (designed to get...

The very poorest, those on benefits can get scrappage, £2000. Might be tricky to get a reliable ULEZ compliant motor for that, but regardless that excludes a very large proportion of working families who are already struggling and need their car for work and other purposes. Whether you accept...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I used to live and work in this part of London. It's suburban, but it's not all posh and wealthy by any means. Not everyone there works in the City, and there's a fair proportion of stretched lower and middle income people and families who rely on having a car and can't afford to just replace...

    MOT Expired

They are, but I don't think they're used for driving offences like this, mostly to discourage and prosecute bilking, I suspect. I'd probably done 10,000 miles before I got pulled...

    MOT Expired

Fwiw I got pulled a few years ago, driving without a MOT. By a traffic car with ANPR on the M42/A42, unless it's changed since then I don't think regular response cars have ANPR fitted, but I could be wrong. It was a genuine mistake, and it was a good six months out of date (I genuinely thought...

Tony Blair, a very rich man these days, strangely enough, turns out to be a Tory. In the meantime... Starmer et al, of the LINO party (Labour In Name Only), happily take donations from the private healthcare trough...

Feckin' Coutts. They won't let me bank with them either. They say it's because I haven't got 3 million in my current account, but I think it's really because I was in the same room as Tony Benn, once.* Cancelled. Waah! *This is actually true, though admittedly it was also with a few hundred...

It's gone way beyond selections for Starmer, he's clearing the party of the left wherever possible. Do you genuinely think Corbyn would have deselected a popular, effective, but right-leaning mayoral candidate, already in post, and with a very substantial majority. Starmer actually just did...

    USSR invades Ukraine.

Fair point. Still reckon I'd take it over the M5 to Cornwall when the kids break up. 😄

Politely disagree mate. Whether you liked Corbyn or not, he at least tried to unite the left and right of the party. Under Starmer it's quite clearly and obviously a purge of the left using any pretext available.

    USSR invades Ukraine.

Puts another dent in Putin's reputation at home too, which can't hurt. Perhaps discourages travel in general across the bridge too, I certainly wouldn't fancy it knowing that it's constantly at risk of attack...

And of course, the Government's solution to a falling birth rate is a two-child benefit cap and a vigorous commitment to reduce immigration. Supported completely by the (supposedly) Labour government in waiting. For the first time in our lives, the average height of children is falling...

    Death List 2023

Beat me to it! First thing I thought of was "On yer bike!". Him and Carl Chinn (who is still alive of course) made brummy accents almost acceptable, then Peaky Blinders came along and ruined it all. 😁
