    What's in a name?

Why has it become the trend to mis-pronounce "Anthony" with a TH in the middle rather than the H being silent, as intended?

    What's in a name?

I think throughout history, the evolution of names has largely been based on people's inability to spell. So many names have been mis-spelt but are phonetically correct. This happens with surnames, streetnames and place names too, and often happened by people who COULD write trying to interpret...

True - but it looks like if they don't act within a month, they are deemed not to have acted!

    Holiday 2020 thread

It seems quite popular to stay in "Aparthotels" (essentially an apartment, with a kitchen area and bathroom). We had one 30 seconds off the main square, and i recall it being dirt cheap. It's essentially self-catering, but they work with a Ukrainian cafe just down the street to do nice...

    EU procedure update

According to the Commission guidance on how to manage state aid (including complaints relating to it):- "The complainant shall in any case receive a substantiated preliminary assessment letter within one year of the receipt of the complaint." The complainant then has one month to act. I'm not...

The 'not so obvious' hot babes thread!

As a regular viewer of Ski Sunday on the BBC, i have known of her for about three years. I think she is too pretty to be regarded as "not so obvious" - i thought that was the criterion for inclusion, that's all, rather than "little known hot celebrities"

Yeah he does sounds of the 70s. Has some pretty good guests to talk to as well. Such a relaxed style. The consummate professional. Used to love his R2 drivetime programme (pre Chris Evans and Simon Mayo)

Bruno Brookes? Hell's teeth, it was Johnnie Walker in my day who did the lunchtime show on Radio 1. Tuesdays were chart day, and he played the new Top 5 between 12.45 (when Newsbeat ended) and 1.00, when he did the full run-down (with Time is Tight by Booker T and the MGs as the background...

    HS2 Get on it!!!

Irrespective of the environmental impact and monumental waste of money of this ridiculous vanity project, there will be work locally in the skilled trades for the next 15 years or so. I lived near Heathrow when they were building Terminal 5, and you couldn't find a decent bricky, carpenter...

    Things that annoy you

A lot gets said about "sexualisation" of young girls/teenagers, and yet what passes for school "uniforms" in terms of short skirts these days verges on the obscene. If they'd worn stuff like that when i was a lad, i'd have had a permanent boner at school! But the boy looks ... he gets accused of...

Yeah but see how quickly they run crying to mummy if that attracts someone they turn out not to like! Gives women who have genuinely been assaulted a bad name and a tough ride.
