If you were in that position, wouldn't you resign knowing that it would piss so many people off? I understand it and I get it. And that could well be the case...but if your boss told you, in effect, to make yourself mega-unpopular with the people who you've (in part) helped to get on side over...

Absolutely no chance. As much as I love MR (and I do), he's finished no higher than 12th in the Championship with us. They'll be looking at someone else.
