Manchester City - 115 Charges (4 Viewers)

115 point deduction , play their home games behind closed doors no telly games either . Banned from Europe

It'll be quite interesting to see what happens in the long term if the Man City judgment is upheld. Will their owners hang around if their achievements so far are tainted?

We barely buy any oil off them so even if it was a threat (I can’t see any evidence) it’s not a particularly scary one.
They have been buying up infrastructure in the UK. For instance they knew the world is pulling away from oil so they heavily invested in our windfarms.

I think there's a lot of wishful thinking on here about the kind of punishment that will be given to Man City over all this. While I agree they ought to face severe penalties, the cynic in me thinks they will not receive the kind of punishment many believe they should or will get.

At the end of the day Man City's owners have deeper pockets than the PL, and will simply make legal challenge after legal challenge to make it financially unviable for the PL to hand out a fitting punishment without risking the PL's own financial wellbeing and that of its member clubs, who can ill afford to lose any of their PL money through it being used to stand up to Man City in Court instead of on huge transfer fees and salaries.

At the end of the process (whenever that may be), there will probably be a negotiated punishment which Man City will be willing to wear. I suspect that will be something along the lines of a massive fine and a points deduction that would prevent them making the Champions League for one season. Unfortunately I struggle to see a scenario where they are automatically relegated or deducted enough points to effectively guarantee relegation.

The problem with your theory is the last remaining integrity of the Prem is at stake. If they were not willing to follow it through they wouldn't have found them guilty of so many charges. They knew what they were up against and the process took a long time to make sure it was done correctly.

They can take it to the High Court. But the rules were clear and there must be clear evidence that they broke the rules. Several clubs around Europe have been given punishment for breaking the rules so there's precedent to back up punishment.

The precedent in the Prem has been an average of 4 points per guilty charge. Just 1 point per charge would be enough to leave them on negative points over the season.

I'm leaning towards one season in the Championship with them straight back up breaking all records on the way.

The PL have been painstakingly investigating this for years so it's going to be a mega punishment. The gov won't like to as Abu Dhabi has done a lot of good for that part of Manchester and UAE do a lot of trade with the UK so it's going to damage relations

if any appeals fails it will be enough points to ensure they are relegated

why will there be a negotiated punishment? the next step in the process is the punishment then the appeal and they still claim to be inncoent

By negotiated I meant a reduced punishment that Man City find acceptable, as previously happened on a smaller scale with Everton. If this doesn't happen I can see a SISU type approach undertaken by Man City of attempting to wear the PL down through endless legal action, regardless of outcome, knowing that ultimately their deeper pockets will win the day. In such circumstances I doubt the PL member clubs appetite for potentially losing much of their PL income in order to endlessly fight Man City's owners in Court.

Like I said though I admit my viewpoint is a somewhat cynical one based on a lifetime of seeing money, influence and power triumphing over right, but maybe just maybe I will be wrong and a just punishment will be enforced this instance. Time will tell.

I think the idea that somebody put forward of a points deduction for a set number of seasons is better than one massive one to ensure relegation. Why should next season's Championship become a practical non-event?
But can the PL get the Championship to deduct points? Or would it be that they would have further points deducted next time Man City were in the PL?

Thing is because of the immense scale of the charges what will be described as a 'severe punishment' is likely to be comparatively more lenient compared to the punishments handed out to the likes of Everton and Forest for arguably lesser offences.

Like the points deductions for accounts being late - while I think it's good to have that kind of policy it seems it would be better to hand in a set of accounts that are horseshit and defend them later than it is to do them properly and for them to be late.

If that is upheld on appeal, which it will then nothing but a points deduction thatvrekefates and extra points deductions if they get back to the pl will do.

Serious cheats

Surely the biggest cheating scandals in English football history, this wasn't just for a season or two. A systematic cheating for 10 years, lied and covered up with fraudulent accounts and hindered the investigation.

Not surprised this has happened though, pretty sure when financial fair play was introduced the general consensus was that clubs would look to circumvent it with bogus contracts, advertisements and sponsorships from the owners other businesses.

Still don't think they'll get punished enough to be relegated.

They've got to be relegated. It's an £830 million overspend, and despite their statement, they knew exactly what they were doing.

The punishment has to be of the harshest severity. Anything else would be a total cop out.

Surely this is criminal fraud on an industrial scale? It’s beyond football sanctions.

If they are to be relegated, and I think they should be put in L2, do the PL relegate them immediately or wait until the end of the season?
