Chance to see some of the new signings that haven’t had many minutes yet. Mfuni, Ghobo, Hamer I assume will start, maybe Cherif off the bench.
 
We were the best supported club in the championship last season home and away. We have a run of sold out games going almost all the way back to Xmas. We've sold out for Sunday (yeah there are tickets on the exchange, but these are already sold so effectively being sold twice). We don't have much to worry about. It's like some still haven't got their head around the fact people are not arsed about the league cup early rounds. Palace had 13,000 the other night, Sunderland 25K, so way below their league gates. And Sunderland were charging £15 for adults and £5 for kids.

Yeah, it's Villa and all that, but the tickets aren't on general sale yet.

This is irrelevant. Palace charged £15 for adults £5 for kids. Sunderland £15 for adults and £5 for kids. Next week against Wolves, Everton are charging £15 for adults and £5 for kids.

You think the reason we are charging £32-£40 and £20 for kids is down to Villa who themselves haven't charged more than £25 for league cup for several years?

My mate, a ST holder, has been told he can't buy tickets for family members who want to go as they don't have a purchasing history (i.e. in case they are Villa fans). They just fancied coming to a game. Bit odd (especially if being purchased by a ST holder)

Palace were playing a non local championship team and still only got 13k at those rock bottom prices.

Which kind of proves my point. It's like people on here are completely new to the game and have no concept of just how unattractive these early league cup fixtures are, because we're not trying to sell 4,000 match tickets as per a league game, it's 28,000 on a week night. Club's everywhere bottoming out prices just to get a half decent gate through the door. Meanwhile, here, a club that sells out every game currently, we're beating ourselves up because we're not going to pack the place out when we're charging far more than pretty much everyone else.

Yeah, but it's Villa. Well a. some people don't care all that much and b. the fact it is Villa has made a big difference. If we were paying Hull at these prices we'd be getting 12K. This thread is a carbon copy of the Spurs thread two seasons ago. The absolute meltdown then, and it still didn't hit home when we got a bigger gate against Swansea a few days later that the league cup doesn't attract big gates, regardless of the opposition.

We get 25-26K for this, then that is a brilliant turn out imo.

The general public without an ST or Membership aren’t the ones moaning that they’ve had season tickets since St Andrews and have done loads of away games and it’s a closed shop….

I really think that perhaps more people are struggling with ‘ The cost of greed’ crisis than I realised. The ticket price isn’t that prohibitive but I do understand thats only a part of the true cost of going to matches for many.
Energy bills, vehicle fuel, food, drink, water bills, council tax, insurance costs, phone bills etc all going up above inflation.

I’m a season ticket holder and am not going and live 150 miles away and my working day finishes around 5-5.30 so no chance of me attending midweek matches but that’s life.

It is the point because £90 to see Young Boy isn’t really the same as paying it to see Bayern Munich or Barcelona. In our context, it is a £33 ticket against our rivals who haven't played since 2001.

No one talks about the cost of living until its an oversubscribed game like Arsenal, Man City, Everton, Spurs, Man U, Liverpool and so on. You see it in the threads about 'closed shops' when people mention personal circumstances meant they couldn't go regularly in the Championship years but circumstances have conveniently changed for better for the big time.

That's fair enough, when I lived down south I regularly missed KOs leaving early at 4:30 on a relatively straightforward route. I was only able to do it because my room at my parents was free for me to sleep in. Otherwise, it'd have been so difficult doing midweeks getting in at 0100.

Somerset would be too far for me.

And in context villa have thousands on a waiting list that cannot attend games so 90 quid on a 1 off game where you get the chance is the same , is my point

Villa have a huge fanbase much bigger than ours and yet priority / cost / importance all play a part still amongst fans because they only got 32 k in a european game

Also , to many fans under 35 its basically a game against the premier league side from birmingham , theyve never seen them as rivals because they cant remember playing them

Also in regards to the cost of living , i know people who have just forked out couple hundred quid to watch us in the league against brighton and hull with their kids where it matters and cant afford another 100 ontop for this game

Many fans like myself have just spent close to 2000 pounds for season tickets too with kids etc .

and on the side life is quite expensive , so yea , cost of living matters

I still think the crowd will be 27000 or so and that would be excellent for a 3rd round tie full of reserve players

Let's be honest, a full stadium still is a bit of a novelty.
 
I'm going to give our fans a pass on this one.
It is the League Cup...which has unfortunately been in decline for many years.
Probably since the advent of the Premier League. Not the Cup that 10,000 City travelled to
West Ham for in the early 80s. Upton Park was a proper bear pit that night as we failed to a late Jimmy Neighbour goal.

I maintain our hardcore is the 5k L2 season ticket holders, although we were still under sisu's thumb then so it may be slightly higher now.

That's who were there at our lowest ebb though.
 
For perspective, there were only 16,000 there in 1990 for that famous 5-4 win over Forest. This was when the League Cup had a much bigger status and teams played their strongest sides. Forest at that stage seemed to be in a cup final every other year too.

Admittedly attendances were overall lower for games at that time than they are today.

I'm wondering if someone I know (not going) can purchase tickets on their behalf - then forward the e-mail to my mate (I can then sort out settling up between them) That's as close as I've come to as a plan!

That isn't a problem for me because of how much more it costs to run a club in the Prem. It's the fact that an away ticket is £30 maximum. That's a massive difference.

You can assign them to anyone in your network with a history and they could forward them onto whoever
