We just need to let him go TBH. I like him a lot but he’s clearly not rated by the manager and would get a big pay bump from a new contract. Maybe we’re asking too much but you’d think there would be good interest considering his goal record.

Can’t force him to sign. If the market only values him at 5 or 8 million then that’s what he’s worth. I’m sure he’ll go in Jan. Maybe that’s the hope that the striker market is better then?
 
Sure Wright getting injured's forced a change of plan here.

If he's not signing a new contract, and I completely get his reasoning, there's no logical reason not to sell other than it would leave us short. I wouldn't buy there not being takers, either.

Wright, Simms and BTA should have all been sold, we shouldn’t have let ourselves get in this position

Wright has been injured a while though. Could we have not sold Simms and replaced him?

Wright it was reported by the Turkish side when he was sold and repeated by the CET. Never heard anything about Simms but we have had players who had an option and we didn’t know about it.

We've bought two strikers.

One, although I like him, is injury prone and the other is a kid who needs to get up to speed. So we've bought in replacements just not ones that you're confident can be used without needing the likes of Simms just in case.

So now we've got the case where Simms will be here, having not signed a new contract as yet, who even if we tried to sell in Jan could just either sign a pre-contract abroad or just run his contract down to leave for free. And who could blame him when his manager clearly has little faith in him. So a player we've bought for £8m could be leaving on a free.

Then there's Wright and BTA, both of whom were probably at the peak of their value to us over the summer. One is injured (after international duty AGAIN!) while the other is likely to make very little impression in our team in the PL and who's value will also be going down.

For someone who apparently signs the majority of our players based on the ability to sell them for a profit, King isn't doing a great job of buying low, selling high.

Wright is injured
Cherif, who may well have been Simms intended replacement, isn't ready yet
Awoniyi is good enough but not 90min in in every game
BTA is not considered to be good enough by a lot of people
Simms is inconsistent but does enough over a season
 
Now it's clear he is staying at least till January then we should see a bit more of Ellis probably as a late sub.

I think Tawio got 2 90 min games was because Frank Lampard wants him properly match fit and that's the best way to achieve that.

He’s had 1 so far. Came off on 70 vs Plymouth for Cherif.
 
Maybe they have looked at what they can get for Simms and thought he's actually worth more than that to the club this season. If we were only going to get 10 mil for him I doubt we could get better for the same money. last season he got 13 goals as the back up striker, if he gets 1/2 that many this season as the back up its probably worth more than 10 mil.

It’s all about opinions. 2 out of the three will wind their contract down. The other, great team/squad player
