If he's staying we really need to try and get him to sign a contract. Such a weird position we've left ourselves in, we might need him but theres little incentive to want him to do well as he can just walk away if he does.

Can’t force him to sign. If the market only values him at 5 or 8 million then that’s what he’s worth. I’m sure he’ll go in Jan. Maybe that’s the hope that the striker market is better then?

If he's not signing a new contract, and I completely get his reasoning, there's no logical reason not to sell other than it would leave us short. I wouldn't buy there not being takers, either.

We've bought two strikers.

One, although I like him, is injury prone and the other is a kid who needs to get up to speed. So we've bought in replacements just not ones that you're confident can be used without needing the likes of Simms just in case.

So now we've got the case where Simms will be here, having not signed a new contract as yet, who even if we tried to sell in Jan could just either sign a pre-contract abroad or just run his contract down to leave for free. And who could blame him when his manager clearly has little faith in him. So a player we've bought for £8m could be leaving on a free.

Then there's Wright and BTA, both of whom were probably at the peak of their value to us over the summer. One is injured (after international duty AGAIN!) while the other is likely to make very little impression in our team in the PL and who's value will also be going down.

For someone who apparently signs the majority of our players based on the ability to sell them for a profit, King isn't doing a great job of buying low, selling high.

Awoniyi is good enough but not 90min in in every game
BTA is not considered to be good enough by a lot of people
Simms is inconsistent but does enough over a season

Maybe they have looked at what they can get for Simms and thought he's actually worth more than that to the club this season. If we were only going to get 10 mil for him I doubt we could get better for the same money. last season he got 13 goals as the back up striker, if he gets 1/2 that many this season as the back up its probably worth more than 10 mil.
