I totally understand we need to move up a level with our facilities and options in the premier League ...however ...
Is it just me or is this a massive money making campaign being launched by the club (Doug) to relieve us of every penny possible whilst perhaps our heritage and actual identity are getting lost in the clamour to fill the clubs coffers.. Yes we have spent money on transfers but they seem to be players with "potential" who the club hope to sell on .. all feels a bit off right now .. probably just down and over reacting but it's not much fun right now.

£6m on Pinnock is not potential
£9m on Awoyni is not potential
£6m on Hamer is not potential. Louza couldn’t have been a better bet in my opinion but I really hope Hamer does well with us

Rushworth and Yirenkyi I have no issues with and hope one day they turn us a profit. Still think we got a bit caught up only going after Rushworth and got fisted on the fee. Surely with Southampton not getting promoted their agreement on Peretz could have been broken.

Amenda hopefully will turn out to be a good pick up, looks good on first impressions

£20m on Cherif and Tchaoma in my personal opinion is wild and I just can’t fathom it.

I think it's mostly the premier league being some soulless corporate clusterfuck tbh. Carling don't give a fuck about us in the Championship but get to Prem and here they are. Can't blame Doug wanting to increase revenue to give us a better chance of staying up but it does come at a cost.

Having said that he's done well to take a decent stand against the scummy gambling companies along the way.

DK has been funding short falls every month since he joined us. Compared to most Premier League Clubs we are poor. Anyway as a consumer you still have a choice about what you buy and what you don’t buy.
 
Was there an estimate of his wealth when he first came in at about £500M,now reportedly at £300M bit of a hit there.
It's expensive the football ownership club.

Re identity and times changing.

The display board yesterday just featured non stop adverts of how you could spend your money. Hospitality, shirts etc. Even halftime break didn’t do fans messages/photos. A small thing but……

Has kick it for a ticket gone too or is JD on his hols ?

It probably isn’t just you but no you are not correct and no it’s not just Cov it’s the model most clubs pursue now. Brighton really started it in earnest but almost all clubs outside the top 6 do it.

Can't say I will miss kick it for a ticket, however where was Sky Blue Sam on Saturday ?
 
The OP will get some stick, but they have a point.

I like DK immensely, he has taken this club forward leaps and bounds, but he can get a bit carried away and giddy, and is in danger of losing sight of what makes a club tick - especially over the long term. Short term, last season, he got away with £46 match tickets in the second division because of the how that season went and a high ST base (we he helped generate of course). But following promotion I think he's been a bit naive.

He made corporate unaffordable for the very people who made it pretty vibrant as hospitality areas go, to one that is now truly corporate, in the sense that we'll only sell it out for games against opposition where there are enough non city fans willing to pay for it. Some people will applaud that, but next season it will be a real challenge to get people back if we're relegated

By contrast, Ipswich froze matchday prices this season, they start at £28 and at the top end, in premium seats, don't exceed £48 even for the bigger games. Hull's matchday pricing is £28-£35 and have dirt cheap season tickets. Doug's first instinct was to hike matchday pricing to £50-£70 (yes, there is a cat c price, but will wee see it more than once?). People will argue Hull and Ipswich have got it wrong, but I'm not sure they have.

He looked at it on the basis we're PL now and need to charge the same (actually a bit more) than some established PL clubs. That increase will have make no material difference in our ability to stay in the league, the difference in revenue is easily lost in one bad transfer negotiation.

We have to be commercially savvy and maximise where we can, but you also want to maintain the vibe, the partisan atmosphere and keep people coming and make them feel invested in what is a community asset as much as it is a business. It's a difficult balance, and short term we may well see sell outs at these high prices, but we may start to turn people off and I'm not sure that's wise in the long term.

Perhaps the best comparison is with other PL clubs with a similar historic support base and how big that is in relation to capacity, adjusted for London where prices generally and tourist fans will always be greater

Maybe look at Brighton, Ipswich and looking back how did clubs like Southampton, Norwich, West Brom, Wolves benchmark against the division generally. Their relative pricing strategies.

At the low end, almost all clubs have some tickets cheaper than our £50 starting price and kids prices lower almost everywhere (I'm excluding our cat c on the basis I don't think we'll see it more than once). On the price average (lowest to highest prices averaged) we're probably middle of the pack. Compared to the other two promoted clubs though we're a lot higher.

I think that is a very sensible and balanced post.

Doug King is, in my opinion, a very good chairman and owner - the best since Derrick Robins - and we owe him a lot, especially after the grim SISU years, but he’s human and like the rest of us he doesn’t get absolutely everything right.

I’d much rather have him than a wealthy foreign owner, such as a US hedge fund or a state-owned investment fund from a Gulf oil state.

You can't really get more fashionable than Fulham and they're content let their fans to Alicante their tickets when not attending in their network it seems, same with villa.

Yep, I echo this sentiment. I felt it during the summer, and towards the start of the season, and now it’s very apparent.

I guess it’s a pitfall of entering the EPL with the financial intent of staying there.

Think we might see a further exit from hospitality by those burned by this year’s price rise once season tickets elsewhere in the ground become available. Even if the prices are cut, memories of the approach taken this season will last
