Transfer Rumour Summer Transfer Window 2026 (30 Viewers)

Not on any planet did JDS play well vs Arsenal. And if you think that you're accepting mediocrity.

We were an injury away from playing lati at RB or Kitching at LB in that game too. Rubbish squad planning..

It's not rubbish squad planning, it's the nature of the transfer window. The amount of deals done in the last 7-10 days is ridiculous and we're far from the only team that still needs additions.

We're working with a budget which has already gone further than most people expected. There will be multiple conversations ongoing and they will have identified the same positions as we have. Signing players at the top level is complex.

So who did you see stopping Saka get past down the right? He's a seriously top player and got turned back every time...

I agree compared with Arsenal, no-one really came out well but the problems were all on our right on the night

Agreed, we need to realistic - we're not building a squad to compete with Arsenal. We need to beat, Ipswich, Hull and maybe Spurs or Fulham

Crikey, I’m starting to think I was watching a different game. Oceans of space out wide, no pressure on the ball, crossing at will. Not that I expected anything different but this JDS performance is morphing into something it just wasnt

If you're accepting JDS to be our starting LB this season through purely sentiment. And if you genuinely think he's a PL player then i'm worried for you. That kind of thinking will relegate us

"crossing at will" since when did Arsenal play a crossing game? We had more crosses than they did. And there wasn't oceans of space out wide on our left, they tried overloading and mostly got pushed back. But they played through our midfield at will, that's the actual game that happened.

I am not saying that. I am just pointing to the evidence. All the pressure came either through the middle or on our right where Tzolis totally skinned MVE every time. But you seem obsessed with replacing the LB.

You were definitely watching a different game. There was way too much pressing of the ball from Onyeke and Yirenkyi up top leaving Grimes totally isolated trying to stop the Arsenal rush. Check the second goal - it was Grimes vs. Rice, Odegaard and Tzolis and Saka. Whilst they had simply run through our press. If you are not sure, check what Grimes said after the game. He couldn't apply pressure because he was surrounded by players.

We’re not going to set up so defensively going forward.

When the likes of Torp and Rudoni came on we looked very different.

Grimes, Caleb and FTT together as a 3 isn’t going to create much

Arsenal did not create that many chances. XG was 1.8. Maybe would have been higher if we didn’t gift them the first two goals. Apart from mistakes, I think our issue was midfield where we were overrun at times. In hindsight I think BTA starting was a mistake. Hamer there and tucking in would have helped. But it was the mistakes that cost us.

They did both. They were able to play around Onyeka mainly who was too far advanced. But they also had endless space out wide. Surely you must watch games and be wondering how much further a wide player can move towards our box before actually being pressed. It was a constant theme from last season as well

Totally agree with this, that's the actual game.

What are you talking about? You don't press attacking players.

They played in second gear mate. At any point they could have scored a lot more. Don’t be fooled.

@ThatCovPod said they thought we were quiet as fans. It was because we could also see a 6 or 7 goal thrashing coming and we offered nothing in attack.

And thats why stars are meaningless. Once they were 2-0 up cruise mode switched in.

...but not pressed
I would suggest our problem was further upfield and was mostly a naive attempt to press. Onyeke was pressing next to Simms trying to stop them at source and was ineffective. And Yirenkyi was too keen to challenge and got played through time and again. So our middle defense ended up being just Grimes and he was totally overrun. Meanwhile, MVE was skinned by Tzolis every time he got the ball. And our CBs were pushed too far back leaving a big gap between Grimes and the back line.

In the end it seemed we wanted to show them that we can play rather than a more mature focus on defense and break which Hull did against MU. So we were stretched and exposed by a really good team.

Sakamoto offers mve protection surprised he didnt at least come on at half time we could have got mve on the overlap a few times he was very exposed

You know Dasilva was LB not RB right? Everything seemed to come from the right side?

I swear if Ipswich and Hull had lost there wouldn’t be half the obsessing over this game.

Spot on. When we had our wobble last season the players/manager remained focussed and locked in, it was a chunk of our fan base that lost all perspective and turned into dribbling wrecks.

I expected it at some point this season and feared the worst when I saw we had Arsenal and Man City away in the first three games but I’ve got to be honest I thought it might take more than one game away at Arsenal (who had spanked Man City 3-0 the week before)

Us losing (without playing well) and Ips/Hull winning is clearly triggering but I think there are legitimate concerns over (i) reliance on our championship team (8 starters on Friday); (ii) the majority of our improvement spend so far being spent on very young players with limited top tier experience; and (iii) our striker strategy which I find confusing. But it is too early to judge. We need to see the squad at the end of the window and also need to see the team against bottom half Premier League teams. I trust DK and FL and so remain optimistic.

It’s the other two getting points on the board. I am concerned by the lack of top level experience in the team, but there is still a week to get some in.

That game was the equivalent of our first Championship game being played away at Leeds who won the league the season before and strengthened further.

We have really been screwed over by the fixture computer, that’s it.

Exactly this. There’s also some bedding of players. Let’s see where we are after 8 ganes or so.

The fixture man.

How the fuck did some people in here survive an away 2-0 loss to Morecambe in league two if this is their reaction to losing away at the best team in the country!
They probably weren’t bothered then.

It should be a computer that makes it random but they want their fixtures when they want them, we would have been better off finishing second some reward for winning it.
I’m fairly sure it did used to be a computer but now it’s blatantly just TV executives who for some reason thought sending us to Arsenal to open the season was the best thing for telly.

If they insisted on that, they should at least have made it a home game.

Arsenal are probably one of the best at playing out of a press and through you. We were given a masterclass in it. Then at three nil they lost interest, job done and saw the game out. We are nowhere near Arsenal’s level and shouldn’t be expected to be. Some fans need a reality check and stop playing fantasy football in their heads.

By this logic we should have just forfeited the game and saved ourselves the cost of a hotel and the fatigue in our legs.
