Matchday Productions

Whatever else you can say about our AV team, they've been a part of the furniture for years, have been a key part of our rise back to the top from obscurity, have consistently risen their game as we've risen through the leagues and with the introduction of WLADITT have no less than changed the culture around Coventry City forever. I cannot even begin to imagine how it must have felt for them seeing the fans sing it before the FA Cup semi-final.

I understand that business is business, world stage requires world class facilities and experience, and all of that but the timing of this is extremely harsh and it's very sad to see such dedicated members of the cause thrown away so callously.

I really hope they've gotten some kind of recompense and recognition from the club.

Great post. ADI. A matchday production company. FFS. Couple of things we can do as a fanbase this season.

Use our platform to voice just how shit stuff like this is. Refuse to engage with any of it. Slag it off the first chance Sky stick a microphone in front of you. This is where some of your ticket increase is going by the way. F**king soulless corporate mercenaries swooping in to commercialise an experience. If they weren't interested at our lowest then I'm not interested now.

Hi Royston

Tom Hanks Hello GIF

;)

Not sure how I feel about this in all honesty. The atmosphere and general feeling around matchdays has improved considerably in the last 4-5 years and always felt more organic/authentic than many others. There have been any number of plaudits etc. for it and it has certainly been a driver for the better club/team/fan connections in my view.

That said, there is always room for improvement but lets see what the new guys can do. Hopefully wifi and PA are part of the improvements.

Time will tell but would be interesting to understand the club's thought process and objectives behind it ~ a topic to put on the list of subjects for the next fans forum maybe?

I love KIFAT if it does go I hope it’s replaced with something similar in terms of crowd participation.

This is a bit disappointing, but we also let Jamie Allen go and countless others along the way who weren't capable of the level we needed. In that sense, this can be considered another cold, hard decision. I guess we'll see what we get at the stadium this season as to whether it was worth it.

I don't know how these outside contractors that everyone is using can continue to build and grow the bond between the club, the players, the fans, the ground. Those folks who did the AV contributed to all this good feeling in a way that's hard to measure and quantify.

Oh and I forgot, I read somewhere that clubs in the Premier League are sort of hamstrung in terms of how they can do prematch etc because of the league's own requirements and TV too. So it may be that this experience in stadium is going to get worse, regardless of who is doing it next year :/ .

Thought crossed my mind that it might all be getting done remotely, which wouldn't be great.

Even if a new company is taking over you'd think if they need people onsite they would keep the same staff. Can't imagine they've got a ton of employees to dispatch to every ground at the weekend. It will be a few hours, 20 something times a year type contract the existing team would have had so why not just take them on and train them in the new system?

decent AV can really make the occasion and elevate the crowd. But if it’s a company who are used to sterile PL grounds and see their job as doing it all themselves I’m not so keen.
Difficult not to get aroused by the promise of "powerful content platforms" though.

Maybe. There's probably a bunch of commercial opportunities and things that are integrated into AV matchday experience that work much better at scale. As we know, Doug will need to exploit and extract everything from matchday and beyond - this is likely not about cost - but some increase in revenue. It may even be that this deal somehow pays for the necessary AV upgrades.

Doing it remotely with the reception we get in the stadium?

I look forward to finding out the team news just as I'm getting to my seat. For the start of the second half.

If they've had to sacrifice the control room for TV, and I've no idea if they have, then remote operation may be the only option.
