I’m not sure that’s true
On my viewing he didn’t cover at all defensively
He topped more defensive contributions than anyone else in our midfield. 2 interceptions, 8 recoveries compared to Grimes 1 and 4, Grimes didn’t register a single tackle and was dribbled past once.

Lampard set him up between Grimes and Rudoni which resulted in that central player (Torp) being bypassed in the first half. To reiterate, in the first half, it was a tactical issue and not a personnel one.

The idea that Torp is a ‘luxury player’ or didn’t cover defensively is unfair and untrue. He was asked to play a difficult role and it didn’t work, something that Lampard acknowledged himself on the and the left hand side of our backline.

Torp was absolutely exceptional defensively on Saturday. As a poster said he was having to do the job of both the box to box cm and EMC defensive work, all while coming back from a knock.

For me it put him in a new light, I didn't have him pegged as a dirty work defensive midfielder, more of a champagne passer, but Saturday he did both!

Be interesting to see that split by 1st & 2nd half, as to me and most of the folk around us on Saturday, he didnt have a great first half and was the first candidate to be subbed for Eccles during the HT chat.

But as it's been said he certainly wasnt "match sharp" and the tactics killed him in that respect.

Not to downplay his stats, but it’s a slightly misleading picture as Jordan James ran off him a fair few times in the first half. I do agree with MMB, though, it was tactical rather than down to his errors.

In the build up to their goal I think we got 3 blocks in, but each time the ball was recovered by them. Which I think was mostly due to us not being quite on it.

Torp had a higher match rating than Grimes, Rudoni and Eccles too. Anyone singling out Torp is talking rubbish. He played well and don’t get where the negativity is coming from.

Latest rumour going round is Crystal Palace have made Frank their number one target for when Glassner leaves

Like everything in life, if you are doing well people take notice.

If we go up, I feel sure FL will stay with 'the house that Frank built' rather than look elsewhere. He is financially secure for life so he will naturally be drawn to projects that excite him. The premiership 'jobs' are literally like going into a revolving door that is at full speed and people have no emotional attachment to individuals or club. It is a money making lottery and paying a $5 million dollar compensation is a piece of cake. I am using American terminology because many owners hail from those shores and FFS they pride themselves on ignorance of the beautiful game. I just hope when we do find the promised land DK doesn't sell us to our Yankie cousins.

Yep he was absolutely part of the problem for the goal as he didn’t follow James who he was marking
Now Kitching could have followed the run but yep

Think that’ll be us done, got the cover on the wings we needed, means we’re just praying grimes doesn’t get injured and we’re fine

Torp was subbed off in the 72nd minute, most of his stats would’ve been from the 1st half. I don’t have the precise breakdown but remember him winning a couple of tackles in the first half.

It was all tactical from Lampard and he needed to adapt because our shape in the 1st half was exploited. It literally has nothing to do with being ‘match sharp’.

This narrative is really odd, I don’t know why Torp is being targeted. Grimes was arguably more off the pace in the first half but because he’s our main man, he seems to escape scrutiny at times.
